Introduction

Subsequent to the economic reform of the Mainland China, thousands of Hong Kong enterprises moved to the Pearl River Delta (PRD). This phenomenon plays an important role in the professional development of Hong Kong engineering professionals.

In order to assist young engineers having a better understanding of the economic situation, culture and working environment in PRD, the H.KU. Engineering Alumni Association (HKUEAA) and HKIE CAI Division organise a 1½-day China Visit which include company visits and sharing sessions with Hong Kong and PRD entrepreneurs in China.

Objectives

The 1½-day China Visit aims to:

  • To promote the advancement of engineering profession;
  • To assist young engineers to obtain a good understanding of the PRD working environment and to equip them with latest knowledge in industry development in PRD;
  • To facilitate knowledge exchange and sharing among participants;
  • To enhance the competitive edge of young engineers.

Eligibility

  • H.K.U. students studying in Engineering disciplines
  • H.K.U. graduates in Engineering disciplines
  • Members of H.K.U Engineering Alumni Association
  • Members of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.
  • Any other interested parties on a priority given to the members of organizing organizations.

Day 1

  • Assemble at HuangGang and travel to Longgang, Shenzhen
  • Company Visit (Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.)
  • Lunch in Longgang, Shenzhen
  • Travelling from Longgang to DongGuan
  • Company Visit (Wong’s Kong King Technology Ltd.)
  • Dinner in DongGuan
  • Travelling from DongGuan to ZhongShan (if stay in ZhongShan)

Day 2

Artesyn Technologies Asia-Pacific Limited
Artesyn Technologies was founded in 1997 and is one of the leading suppliers of power conversion products and communications subsystems to the computing and communications industries. Artesyn Technologies is a US-based company and it has established its own global designs, production and distribution networks. With the strong supports of capital and technology investment, the company provides its customers with quality products and excellent services.
The company has established its own factory in ZhongShan in 1984. Currently, it has a workforce of over 4000 people and the factory serves as the control centre of the company. Artesyn Technologies delivers AC/DC power supplies and a wide range of converters for sophisticated distributed power architectures that offer many advantages, such as ease of configurability, faster-time-to-market, better efficiency and higher reliability for system builders.

Fee

 HK$600 per participant (including all transportation in PRD, meals and venue – two persons per room, insurance)

 For single-room reservation, an additional fee of HK$200 will be charged

Remark: The fee does not include any travelling cost within HK. We will assemble at HuangGang outside Immigration Building.

Reservation and Enrolment

For enrolment, simply email the completed form to or for reservation on or before 22nd July 2005. Reservation should be confirmed ONLY upon receipt of payment. The enrolment form can be downloaded at . Applicants can pay by:

TT to HKUEAA bank account – Please pay the fee into "HKUEAA" account number "004 173 008 277 001" at any branch of Hong Kong Bank and keep the bank pay-in slip. Reply the Pay-in Date and Pay-in Time by email to or mail back the bank pay-in slip with your full name on it (ETC slip with clear printout is acceptable) to the Faculty of Engineering at the following address*.

Applicants will be acknowledged with receipt of payment upon acceptance of their applications.

Important Remarks:

  • The information provided will be used for the enrolment application, statistical purposes and other related matters, it may be provided to persons or organisations authorised to process the information for purpose relating to the function or activities. Your enrolment may not be accepted if you fail to provide the information as requested.
  • Enrolment Fee is not refundable unless HKUEAA is notified in writing of your withdrawal before the deadline of application.
  • Registrations are treated on a first-come-first-serve basis.
  • HKUEAA reserves the right to change the contents of the Itinerary when necessary.
  • If the visit was cancelled, applicants will be informed before 25th July 2005. In such circumstance, all enrolment fees will be refunded.
