January 2009

CARES is so blessed to have each of you be a part of this ministry. Without you the ministries of CARES could not help as many in our community as we do. I trust 2009 will add to your many blessings and treasures of life. Vickie

Thanks to Eva Rice who prepared the delicious bounty of snacks on December 23rd

Thanks to the Board members who volunteered to staff the Thrift Store on December 26th & 27th, while volunteers and staff received an added holiday. Fridays crew of Jerry Brooks and his sister Helen, Chuck and Margaret Blanck, Jill Hobson, Marion Adams, Randy Miles, Eva Rice and Vickie Scott took shifts. Saturday, Walt and Jean Green, Ed Kileen, Bruce Roney, Fritz Earle, Kaye Royall and Brenda Lovelace assisted in the store.

Advantages of being a volunteer:

1-You get to purchase items before theygo into the Thrift Store.

Don’t know if it fits? Vickie will write the items in a log – you take them home to try on and then the next time you come in let her know and pay for the ones that you have kept.

If the item is not priced: You don’t price items you want to purchase. Let either Brenda or Vickie price them.

A treasure in the trash! If items are stained or broken but you have a use for it – it becomes trash to us but treasure to you and the fee is .25. This keeps us all honest and fair to one another.

Let’s all treat one another fairly. We work in a wonderful environment helping others; please do not take advantage of this.

2-You know that your gift of time helps keep the store stocked which generates the proceeds that help the needs of our county.

3-Enjoy a volunteer family who collectively make a difference in AlleghanyCounty.

------

Heaters: CARES began a program in December of purchasing new EdenPure electric heaters that would be available to volunteers as well as those in need of the community. To date 35 heaters have been made available to our county residents. The funds to purchase these heaters are a result of the proceeds of the store.

Store volunteers/staff:Positive attitudes are so very encouraging and we are a small town, so when talking in the Thrift Store, please only speak good of a person – you never know who is related or knows one another.

90 day supply medications are available to our clients.

Medication Assistance Program of CARES office is open Wednesday and Thursday from 11am – 2pm. The program helps to supply monthly prescriptions to those who financially qualify. If you have questions, stop by the office or call 372-5559 and leave a message.

Save Postage: Supply us with your email address! Your bi-monthly newsletter will be sent to you via email. If you do not have an email address, pick up a copy of the newsletter on the file cabinet by the office.

Volunteers are needed for Store Sales on Saturdays(10am-3pm)

One candle, like a single word of praise,

may not light a dark room,

but it can kindle the candle next to it, and the next and the next until the room,

like the heart, is bright.

You are appreciated! Without each of you

Alleghany Cares Inc. could not be as viable in our community.

Thank you for your gift of time and love to this ministry.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
