Talks and Zooms Installation Instructions

Thank you for your interest in TALKS and Zooms Accessibility solutions for mobile phones.

The following instructions assume the user has intermediate or better computer skills. Up to 30 minutes of support is included with a new Talks or Zooms installation. Support is not included with “cross-phone” transfers or TALKS upgrades. Additional support can be purchased for $25 per incident, up to 30 minutes.

Here are the steps to install and activate TALKS on your mobile phone.

1. You must have a compatible phone to run the TALKS and/or Zooms products. Please go to the website for a list of phones, or, contact Peter at Sendero Group, 1-888-757-6810, ext. 107, for clarification. The phone list on the Nuance website may not be a complete list. If the phone you are interested in buying is not on the Nuance list, please check with Peter to see if it’s compatible before proceeding with your phone purchase.

2. After obtaining a compatible phone, go to and click on free trials. At this point it will ask you to select your phone. Once you have selected your phone choose the language and Text-To-Speech engine you wish. If you would like to purchase a license for a Text-To-Speech engine other than Eloquence; please be sure to specify which engine when contacting us for your unlock code.

3. Go to and download the latest version of Nokia's PC Suite for your mobile phone. Your phone may have come with a CD which contains Nokia PC Suite. Typically the installer application on these CDs is not very accessible with screen readers. If you have sighted assistance you can go ahead and install PC Suite from your CD, but it is not necessary to install any of the other included applications on the CD.

4. Install the Nokia PC Suite on your computer. Do not plug in your USB cable until PC Suite has been installed and you have restarted your computer.

5. Plug in your USB cable and phone to your computer. If you have a newer third generation phone you will hear a beep on the phone and a message will appear on the phone screen asking how you wish to connect your phone to your computer. Typically, the second choice in the list will be PC Suite, but your phone may have the list in a different order. Arrow down to PC Suite on the phone and press the phone’s select button. The computer will run the "new hardware detected" wizard several times to install the appropriate drivers for your phone. This may take several minutes. Note, it is also possible to install Talks via Bluetooth.

6. PC Suite may open the "Connectivity" wizard to help you get connected and synchronize your data with your phone. You can cancel this wizard for now. At this point you should hear “Nokia N75 connected via USB”. You will hear a different model number if your phone is not an N75.

7. Find the TALKS software you downloaded and unzip it on your PC.

8. Go to the TALKS unzipped folder and locate the Text-To-Speech software and press enter on it. The file will have a name similar to "Eloquence3rd_enu_6_1_116.sisx” although the version number may be different. Note: If you are installing over an existing version of Talks, on a second generation phone, Go to Nuance Talks and choose Disable from the Options menu. On the newer third generation phones, it is no longer necessary to turn TALKS off when updating.

9. The Nokia Application Installer will open and you will be asked if you wish to install the software on your mobile phone. Select the "yes" button.

10. You will need to finish the installation on the mobile phone. Follow the prompts on the phone to complete the installation. We recommend that you select "phone memory" when prompted for which memory location to install the software to. You may wish to have a sighted friend help you with these steps. You will press yes, or continue anyway, or next, on every prompt if you wish to accept the defaults.

11. Go back to your computer and press “Okay” on the Nokia Application installer to dismiss it. Now go back to the TALKS unzipped folder and select the TALKS file which will be titled something like “talks3rd_320_1_signed.sisx" although the version number may be different.

12. Press enter on the file. The Nokia Application Installer will reappear and you will be asked if you wish to install the software on your mobile phone. Select the yes button.

13. You will need to complete the installation process on your mobile phone. When asked what memory location to install the software to, select "phone memory". You may wish to have a sighted friend help you with these steps.

14. You can press “Okay” to close the Nokia Application Installer at this point unless you are planning to install additional software to your phone.

15. At this point you can register your TALKS software by going to the TALKS/Zooms window on your phone by pressing the "TALKS" key which is the same as the phone's "edit" key (it has a picture of a pencil), followed by the "menu" key. Alternatively, you can press "menu" followed by "down-arrow" until you hear "Nuance TALKS & Zooms Settings", and press "select". Some phones have their menus organized differently so the TALKS & Zooms application may be in a subfolder of the main menu.

16. A license agreement screen may appear. Press the left function key to accept the license agreement. You will now be in the TALKS & Zooms options window. If the "register" options screen does not automatically appear, do the following: Press the

left function key "key 1" and an options menu will be displayed. Arrow down to "Register" and press select. The "Register" options screen should now

be displayed.

17. You will be presented with several options. If you whish to register for a 10day trial, choose that option and press "Select". A message will be displayed asking you if you wish to activate the software now. Press the left function key to continue with activation. Now you will receive a message telling you that TALKS is sending an SMS message to the TALKS server in order to retrieve an activation code. Wait a few minutes and a code will be sent back to your phone. You will hear a message alert telling you that a new message has been received by your phone, and then TALKS will say that it has been successfully activated.

  1. To get a permanent activation code, call or send your phone's IMEI # to Sendero Group, Inc. along with method of payment. You can obtain the IMEI number in four ways, from your service provider; it is printed beneath the battery and on the side of the phone’s box. Also, with the phone powered on, you can display the IMEI number by pressing *#06# at the main screen. The IMEI normally starts with number 3 and is 15 digits in length. Once we have your payment and the IMEI number, a permanent registration code will be emailed to you normally within one business day.

Note: To register the software, repeat step 16 and choose SMS registration, if you received an SMS Ticket from Sendero Group, or, choose Manual Registration, if you received a registration Unlock Code.

19. If you received an SMS Ticket you will be asked to enter it after choosing SMS Registration. Do so and press "Key 1" to send the SMS Activation request.

20. If you received an Unlock Code, choose Manual Registration and, if you have a second generation phone, arrow down passed the IMEI #and enter your Unlock Code without dashes, or if you have a newer third generation phone there’s no need to arrow passed anything, just go ahead and enter your code. The Unlock Code

is not case sensitive. Press "key 1" to select "Okay". You should hear a message telling you that TALKS/Zooms has been successfully authorized or activated.

website and selecting free trial. Once there, select your phone model and continue. At this point you will be able to download the software, documentation, or listen to MP3 presentations about TALKS.
