Thank you for your enquiry about becoming a stallholder at the Rokeby Market.

Goods to be Sold:

Our market policy is that all items sold should be made, grown, baked or sewn by the stallholders themselves. Second-hand items and items commercially grown or manufactured by others may NOT be sold at Rokeby market. You will be asked to remove any products that a committee member believes do not comply with our policy. Rokeby Market has a strong reputation for quality home grown / made products. It would be a disadvantage for ALL stallholders if our reputation was damaged by allowing other, non home made / grown items to creep in.

Raffle tickets may not be sold without prior permission from the committee. Permission will only be given to fundraising groups – eg. local schools, churches or community groups.

Limit to number of stalls selling similar products:

We also limit the number of stalls that sell similar products so that we have a wide range of goods available. Market visitors (your potential customers!) have requested that we have a wide mix of goods for sale, and that we don’t get bogged down with too much of one thing.

Selling food of any sort:

Since 1/7/2010 a new state-wide food premises classification system and updated regulatory requirements have applied to food premises operating in Victoria.

Under the Food Act, most businesses operating in Victoria cannot sell food to the public unless they register as a food business with their local council. A small number of businesses do not need to register with their council; however they are still required to notify council of their intended food business activities.

These new regulations apply to stallholders who sell ANY human foodstuffs at all – from the plant or craft seller who brings along an occasional box of fruit from their tree, tostalls sellingonly foodstuffs - fruit and vegies, jams, wine, tea & coffee, oils, baked goods, hot foods or any other food or drink for human consumption. Everyone who plans to bring any type of food at all must first register with Baw Baw Council. For more information phone the Baw Baw Shire Health Department on 5624 2541 or visit their website:

http://www.bawbawshire.vic.gov.au/Services/Public_Health/Food_safety

Before you can sell any type of food or drink at Rokeby Market you must provide the market organizer with a photocopy of your Baw Baw Council registration certificate.

Insurance Issues:

Stallholders who are classified as Class 2 or 3 food premises (see website link above) along withany other goods regarded as ‘high-risk’ (as determined by the committee)must hold a Public Liability Insurance Policy for not less than $10,000,000.00 (ten million dollars).

Before you can be granted a stall at Rokeby Market you must provide the market organizer with a photocopy of your current public liability insurance policy.

Other stallholders - please be aware that where we do not require you to have insurance cover, you should make your own judgement as to whether you should purchase insurance cover.

Your attendance at the market and payment of your fee does not provide you with any insurance cover.

You must decide if you want to take the risk of a customer taking legal action against you due to your negligence – whether as a result of a product purchased from you, or as a result of injuries sustained from your stall furnishings.

We would be happy to help you with any concerns you have on insurance matters – please feel free to talk to a committee member.

Stall Fees:

Casual site fees are $25 per stall per market. NO powered sites are available.

Fees and availability for permanent sites can be discussed in person at your first market.

Arrival & Departure Times:

The market runs from 8.30am to 12.30pm. For customer safety reasons, there is no car access to the market area during market operating times (8.30am – 12.30pm), so stallholders should arrive in time to be fully set up by 8.30am, and plan to pack up and leave after 12.30pm.

Application form:

To be considered as a stallholder for the 2015/2016 season, you must complete the attached application form in full and return it to the Market Coordinator ASAP (to the address on the application form).

Please complete the application form whether you are applying for the whole season or just one market.

If applying for just one market, we must receive your application form by the Wednesday before the market for your application to be considered.

We suggest that you get your application in quickly – first in, best dressed! Applications will be considered in the order they are received, and we always have a waiting list of people wanting to have stalls at the market.

On the Day:

Entrance to the market area is only via the top gate at the Lavinia St end of the reserve - the Warragul end. There is no access to the reserve from Brandy Creek Road.

Stallholders will be met halfway down the reserve by a committee member wearing a fluorescent orange vest who will show you to your site.

Phone if you are unable to attend:

Please phone Rhiannon (5626 8523) to let her know if you are unable to attend any of the markets for whatever reason.

A common concern with stallholders is the sight of vacant stall sites – customers want to come to a full market, and enjoy having a wide variety of stalls. We always have a long list of people wanting to have a casual site at the market so if you are not able to attend, we will fill the vacant site for that market only.

We look forward to seeing you in the market season.

The Rokeby Hall and Reserve Committee.
