Job Title: EYFS – Teaching Assistant

Salary Scale:Grade 4, Scale Points 11 – 13

Hours:31.25 hours

Responsible to:Foundation Stage Co-ordinator

Key Purpose of Job

To support teaching staff in the planning and delivery of the EYFS curriculum. The post holder will act as key person to a group of children, and will be creative, enthusiastic and flexible and be able to work on own initiative to stimulate children’s social, emotional and physical development.

Key Duties

  • To work in partnership with the EYFS team to plan and deliver high quality learning opportunities/activities, appropriate for the age range of children attending Foundation Stage.
  • Assist in the preparation, clearing and cleaning up of activities.
  • To take an active role in contributing to the learning records for key children.
  • To promote children’s confidence, self-esteem and independence and help children develop positive relationships with others.
  • Ensure that all children are treated with equal respect and that each child’s racial origin, cultural, religious and linguistic background is promoted and given full consideration.
  • To have key-person responsibility for particular children within the class.
  • To work closely with EYFS staff to ensure the development of safe and appropriate play opportunities.
  • To work in partnership with parents, encouraging them to participate in all aspects of their children’s progress and development.
  • To foresee the needs of special needs children and give physical, emotional, intellectual support and guidance as appropriate.
  • To attend staff meetings, training sessions and participate in self-development activities, including weekly planning meetings etc.
  • Develop positive relationships with other staff working in the school.
  • Be familiar with, and put into practice, the School’s Child Protection Procedure, Special Needs/Educational Needs policies and all other codes of practice.
  • Be aware of child development (Early Years Foundation Stage).
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of the children.
  • Support a child’s transition.
  • Midday supervision cover for early years children plus 1 hour ASC per week.

Health and Safety Requirements (applies to all employees):

  • To take appropriate responsibility for one’s own health, safety and welfare and the health and safety of pupils, visitors and work colleagues in accordance with the requirements of legislation and locally-adopted policies; including taking responsibility for raising concerns with an appropriate manager.
  • Co-operate with health and safety requirements.
  • Report all defects on the maintenance forms and return them to the office.
  • Complete the action risk assessments for all potentially hazardous on/off site activities.
  • Use, but not misuse things provided for your health, safety and welfare.
  • Do not undertake unsafe acts.
  • Inform employer of any “Near-Misses”.
  • Be familiar with the emergency action plans for fire, first aid, bomb security and off site issues.
  • Raise health and safety issues with pupils.
