Objective

To inform about the various activities within and the progress of the PROWAD Work Packages since April 2013

1. Background

The Task Group Sustainable Tourism Strategy (TG-STS) steers the PROWAD project, was set up in the framework of the Trilateral Cooperation for the Protection of the Wadden Sea, and will present its findings at the next Trilateral Governmental Conference on 4 – 6 February 2014 in Toender, Denmark

The TG-STS is therefore the forum in which the results of the PROWAD project will be discussed before submitted to the Wadden Sea Board (WSB) and the Task Group World Heritage (TG-WH).

2. Status

The next project activity report and financial statement to the Interreg North Sea Regions Programme Secretariat will cover the period October 2012 – September 2013 and is due in beginning of November. The report is to assess the progress of the activities as outlined in the work plan and contract with Interreg.

In the following, a short description of the main ongoing activities is given.

WP 3 Sustainable Tourism Strategy

  • Consultation version of the STS prepared by the TG-STS until June 2013 and distributed to the stakeholders for regional consultations.

WP 4Development of Sustainable Tourism Offers

  • Feasibility Study Climate Neutral Tourism (by WWF) – see document (TG-STS-10/5-2).
  • Inventory compensation from tourism (by WWF).
  • Guide for sustainable class trips published in summer 2013 (by WWF),
  • Development of a Teaching Resource about the WH Call for Tender on website September 2013 (by WWF),
  • WH Guide (by CWSS + WWF)Status: Outline the WH guide prepared. Compilation of material started to integrate it in the WH-Website as an online guide (English, German, Dutch, Danish). A printed version is planned in summer 2014.
  • Pilot guest survey on World Heritage in Schleswig-Holstein and Niedersachsen in summer 2013 (National Parks).

WP 5 Promotion and Marketing of the Wadden Sea

  • Stakeholder Tool Kit to support the activities of Stakeholders (see TG-STS-10/5-3)
  • Development of a proposal for “Local” WH Flyer (see TG-STS 10/5-4) (by LKN SH)
  • Development of a WH Brand: Brand workshop (20.6.13) and finalization of brand description to achieve brand integrity (see TG-STS-10/5-5)
  • Proposal Merchandising Concept (merchandising workshop on 21.6.13): see TG-STS 10/5-6).
  • Development of a WH campaign 2014 to celebrate Danish inscription (campaign workshop on 7.6.13): see TG-STS-10/5-7.
  • Re-launch World Heritage website (integration of online guide, sustainable WH offers, and education material/IWSS) in progress, finalization until January 2014.

Assessment

Since the start of the PROWAD project, major steps forward have been done towards developing the tourism strategy, strengthening the network of local and regional stakeholder, aligning marketing activities and common high quality information products as well as compiling first ideas to develop sustainabletourism offers.

This has been achieved through a high commitment of the project partners and excellent cooperation within the project and the relevant key stakeholders in the three states.

After the STS and action plan has been adopted in 2013, the WP 4 and 5 will be able to implement the projects and actions in 2013 and 2014 in cooperation with the TG-STS. The work packages are within the planned time schedule.

Proposal

The meeting is proposed tocomment respectively approve the progress report.
