PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION
The Director of Music Ministry (a full time staff position) is responsible for overseeing the entire music ministry for Trussville FUMC. Joining with the staff and congregation, the Director of Music Ministry works to equip members for ministry, fulfilling the vision and mission of Trussville FUMC. The Director of Music Ministry directs the music ministries for the glory of God, spiritual nourishment, and experiential worship, leading people to the knowledge, love and service of God through Jesus Christ.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee (and direct as needed) all music ministries of the church, including but not limited to—traditional worship, Chancel Choir, Contemporary Music Program, Children’s Choir(s), Youth Choir, Handbell Choirs (Children/Adult), Drama and special music groups and ensembles that develop in the church.
- Assist the Pastors with planning worship elements throughout the year.
- Plan and lead music for the traditional worship services.
- Direct, schedule, select anthems and special music ensembles (solos, duets, etc.), set rehearsal time, lead rehearsals for the Chancel Choir, soloists, and accompanists.
- Plan special music for seasonal services, including but not limited to Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Advent and Christmas
- Actively recruit members for the music ministries with attention tothe Chancel Choir.
- Recruit, train, supervise and assistdirectors (staff and volunteer) of all musical groups/ensembles within the church
- Be an advocate for all music ministries of the church with emphasis on recruitment of members for all music ministries.
- Coordinate all music ministries within the church and the times they share their musical gifts for morning worship services.
- Recruit and coordinate organist, pianists, other musicians, music planners, sound coordinators and others involved with the music ministry of the church
- Assist with the pastoral care of the church as directed by the Senior Pastor.
- Develop and implement ways to take the music ministry beyond the local church to the community including but not limited to District, Annual Conference, local events in Trussville and surrounding areas.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Experience in planning and performing worship music in a leadership position is desired.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Music Education or Church Music is strongly preferred
- Commitment to Christ and a passion for music in worship.
- Self-motivation with a good work ethic, ability to manage time and work tasks so that duties are competed in an efficient manner
- Knowledge and appreciation of a variety of genres.
- An understanding of and commitment to Trussville FUMC mission statement and core values, United Methodist organization and theology, and Liturgical Worship
- The ability to relate to, work well with and motivate persons of all ages in a caring manner. Management and organizational skills are essential.
RELATIONSHIPS
- The Director of Music Ministry reports to the Senior Pastor and relates to the SPRC (Staff Parish Relations Committee) through the Senior Pastor
- The Director of Music Ministry attends meetings of the Worship Planning Team, the Worship Committee, the Church Council, Charge Conference, Staff Meetings and other groups as needed.
