Texas Tech University and Area ISDs Partner with Lubbock Lemonade Day

ENSURING MORE CHILDREN EXPERIENCE THE OPPORTUNITY TO START, OWN AND OPERATE THEIR VERY OWN BUSINESS

LUBBOCK, TX – Texas Tech University’s Division of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement in partnership with the Rawls College of Business and the College of Education are proudly hosting a special evening for Lubbock teachers next week.

As part of the Lemonade Day Teachers’ Event, area educators from Lubbock ISD, Frenship ISD, Cooper ISD and Shallowater ISD will be treated to dinner and a program about the experiential learning opportunity for kids across the South Plains through Lemonade Day. Though each Independent School District will implement the curriculum a little differently, there are guiding principals that apply across the board like the value of the individual stand, getting an investor and repaying the loan with interest as well as picking the right location.

“We are thrilled to have all area ISDs join in on Lemonade Day this year,” noted Lemonade Day City Champion and local entrepreneur Ron Betenbough. “Our experience with Joni Rodela and LISD last year was phenomenal, impacting hundreds of third graders. Lemonade Day provided industry experts to come into local classrooms and partner with teachers to explain banking, business location, advertising, sales and customer service. Kids learn so much more through experiencing Lemonade Day than they would from a textbook alone and we are excited to bring this opportunity to even more school districts this year.”

The Teachers’ Event to celebrate the education partnership is scheduled for Tuesday, March 10 at 6:00pm at the Merket Alumni Center. The event is not open to the public but the media is welcomed and encouraged to join in the fun.

Lemonade Day is empowering tomorrow’s entrepreneurs by teaching them to start, own and operate their very own business – a lemonade stand. Last year, over 800 youth-owned businesses were started on a single day. Learn more about how we are ‘Teaching Kids to Fish’ in the 2014 video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6K4nSgho_ew
