Texas State University Ethics and Compliance Program

Welcome to Texas State University. Texas Statebelieves providing ethics and compliancetraining for staff and faculty is vital to creating a working environment where each university member can perform at their maximum ability. To provide this training, the university has implemented an on-line ethics- and compliance-training program that uses modules to convey information about workplace issues. This program provides the most recent information about university policy, and state and federal law in areas like overtime pay, sexual harassment, purchasing, and information security.

All Texas State staff members are responsible for their conduct and must complete compliance training every two years to renew their Ethics Compliance Certification. Thirty days prior to an employee’s Ethics and Compliance Certification expiring, the employee and their supervisor will receive a system generated email.

In addition, Texas law requires all state employees complete EEO training every two years. Equity and Access provides on-line training program as well to meet this requirement.

There are many reasons that the university requiresfaculty and staff to participate in ethics and compliance education. This training:

Educatesstaff and faculty by promoting awareness of ethical and legal standards of conduct;

Provides a central, standardized source for information on university policy and procedures;

Develops an atmosphere that encourages employees to report potential ethical or compliance problems;

Develops procedures that allow prompt, thorough investigation of alleged misconduct;

Prompts immediate,appropriate corrective action;

Minimizesfinancial loss to the university from claims and reduces exposure to liability;

Helps develop good community relations by demonstrating the university’s commitment to ethics; and

Fulfillslegal requirements that demand both public and private institutions adopt rigorous compliance education.

As university staff and faculty,you must report instances of non-compliance, even if it does not involve you. State and federal law prohibit the university from retaliating against any individual who, in good faith, reports instances of alleged workplace misconduct. The most efficient way to report an issue is to go to your immediate supervisor; however, if you are not comfortable with that, you can speak with any other university supervisor or department head.
