Test World’s test of studded tires: Dunlop Ice Touch is a winner

February 15th 2012, Åre Sweden – The results of a studded winter tire test by the independent institute Test World in Finland indicates that the new studded tire, Dunlop Ice Touch, is a wining force to be reckoned with on snow and ice. Compared to the average performance of three premium competitors, Dunlop’s Ice Touch showed it could achieve new levels forice braking, acceleration and grip[1],

On ice, Dunlop’s new Ice Touch showed that it could handle frozen surfaces, with a 13% better result on ice braking than the average scores produced by four of its main competitors. Building on its high performance capabilities, Ice Touch also showed it is aleader on ice acceleration, outperforming by 15% on average. Finally, the tire showed it had clear sticking abilities, with the results from Test World showing a 15% (to be checked, grip on what…)better grip than the average produced by its nearest four competitors.

On snow, the Ice Touch also performs with confidence with overall improvements on snow grip and acceleration over competitive tires by 2% in both cases. Its snow braking abilities matched the best competition on the market, even exceeding it by 1%.

Test World is an objective and independent testing institute owned by Finnish private individuals. The owners are actively involved in the company's daily operations and they have long hands-on experience in testing. Test World specializes in tailored test projects for car and tire manufacturers, motoring magazines and the authorities. Their tests cover cars, car parts and equipment, tires, and many other products related to motoring.

“We selected Test World because we knew they would be tough on our tires”, states Magnus Lord Arenander, product specialist at Dunlop. “As an independent testing institute in Finland they know a thing or two about snow and ice and the results they presented to us today only re-enforce the fact that we have built and delivered a studded tire with new levels of performance on snow and ice, a tire you can drive with confidence in winter.”

Developed for some of the world’s iciest roads, Dunlop’s Ice Touch helps drivers retain performance. Its solid grip is driven by an advanced new 4D multidirectional stud design. For improved traction, the 4D stud delivers a sharp edge for grip on ice when accelerating, while sharp sided edges allow for lateral grip on ice for better cornering on ice. A wide pin increases the contact edge for effective and confident braking. Multi-directional edges in the tread design ensure the tire delivers grip in all directions.
