Purpose:

To introduce the student to the history and motivation of Terrorism and Terrorists and the ways in which it and they have impacted on how we act and react as individuals and societies. We will look at how groups and individuals evolve from activism to terrorism and how governments respond.

Course Objective:

Given a terrorist group, students will be able to produce a realistic threat assessment of the group and its potential for harm to persons, facilities and resources.

Attendance:

Attendance is mandatory and ten (10) points will be deducted from your grade for each unexcused absence. Absences will be excused only for family crises, documented illness and documented professional reasons.

Plagiarism:

Defined as: 1) Submitting another’s published or unpublished work, in part or in whole, as one’s own without fully crediting the author with footnotes, citations or bibliographical reference. 2) Submitting as one’s own, original work, material obtained from an individual or agency without reference to the person or agency as the source of the material. 3) Submitting as one’s own, original work that has been produced through unacknowledged collaboration with others without release in writing from the collaborators.

If work submitted is found to be plagiarism, the student(s) involved will receive an “F” for the quarter and will be reported to the appropriate University officials.

Threat Assessment:

Each student will be required to produce an 8 – 10 page Threat Assessment on a Terrorist group or individual assigned by the Instructor. The style and format of the paper will be provided and will be due on the last class session prior to Final Week. (Note: ONLY the format provided will be acceptable and any others will be considered unsatisfactory!)
