Terms and Conditions – Amended at 11 June 2012

Pioneer Activity Badge Competition for The Scout Association

[31/10/2011] – [midday 29/082012]

1.  By entering this competition, the entrant will be deemed to have read and understood these rules and to have agreed to be bound by them.

2.  The competition is open to UK residents, excluding employees of Promoter and their families, the Promoter's agents or anyone professionally associated with the promotion. Only one entry per Scout Troop.

3.  Entries should be submitted by a Scout Leader over the age of 18 on behalf of their Scout group. Proof of identification may be required at the request of The Promoter.

4.  Entrants expressly declare and represent that (i) they submit to English law and jurisdiction in participating in this competition and (ii) they are individuals and not a company or any professional and/or commercial entity.

5.  The competition will run from [31/10/2011 to [29/08/2012]. The closing time and date for receipt of entries is midday on [29/08/2012].

6.  By entering, the winner/s agrees to participate in any publicity or promotional activities as may be reasonably required by the Promoter. Further the Promoter reserves the right to use the names of winners in any publicity.

7.  There is one [1] major prize that consists of £1000 cash.

8.  To enter the promotion entrants must submit a photograph (more photographs will be accepted but one is mandatory) of their Scout Troop’s outdoor pioneering project. Photos must be accompanied by answers to the following questions: (1) Why/how did you choose to build this particular structure? (2) Who was involved in building the structure? (3) What materials did you use? (4) How long did it take? (5) What (if any) challenges did you face?

9.  Entries shall only be valid if entry is made via email () or via postal address (The Discovery Pioneers Competition, Discovery House, Building 2 Chiswick Park, 566 Chiswick High Road, London, W4 5YB).

10.  Entries that are incomplete or late or those not in accordance with all the entry instructions are invalid. All submitted entries are the property of the Promoter and will not be returned.

11.  No purchase is necessary to enter the competition.

12.  The winner will be selected by an expert panel selected by Discovery Channel. One member of the panel will be from The Scout Association. The winner will be selected during September 2012. The winning Scout leader will be contacted by telephone and their name will be used for publicity purposes where the Promoter deems applicable. Prize fulfillment will take place in 28 days of the competition closing.

13.  The Promoter reserves the right to terminate or modify the competition, modify these terms and conditions prior to the closing date, vary details of the prize, or substitute a prize of equivalent value should unforeseen circumstances require it. The Promoter is entitled to terminate or modify the competition or to modify these rules prior to the closing date by prior notice.

14.  The prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable and non-refundable. The prize must be taken by the winner unless agreed otherwise in writing by the Promoter.

15.  The decision of the judge(s) will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

16.  By entering the free competition all participants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by the rules and consent to the transfer of their personal data to the Data Controller (as defined in the Data Protection Act 1998) for the purposes of the administration of this promotion and any other purposes to which the entrant has consented. Please see Promoter’s privacy policy for further details. All entry instructions form part of the rules.

17.  The Promoter cannot accept any responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any participant entering the competition or as a result of accepting any prize. The Promoter is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any computer on-line systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment or software, failure of any email or entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet, or at any website, including any injury to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in the competition. Nothing shall exclude the Promoter’s liability for death or personal injury as a result of its negligence.
