Job Title: Freelance Development Consultant (Southampton Music Hub/Isle of Wight Music Hub)

Terms:1 years maternity cover (2 days per week)

Remuneration: £32k (pro rata)

Main Purpose of Job

Southampton Music Hub is entering an exciting period of growth and development. From April 2016 SMH has taken on accountability for the Isle of Wight Music Hub and to support this work, and to ensure that we can reach as many young people as possible with as many opportunities as possible we are seeking to appoint a development officer. The main purpose of the job will be to look at the all streams of income available from fundraising and development

Key Responsibilities and tasks

  • In consultation with SMH managers to develop and manage the fund raising strategy (within the organisational strategy and annual budget and business planning processes). This will include the setting and monitoring of appropriate targets.
  • To take the lead in the preparation, scheduling and submission of funding applications to public funding bodies
  • To prepare applications for funding projects and produce written proposals to potential funders. To work with members of the team to report to and deliver on commitments to funders
  • To initiate, develop and sustain relationships with potential funders, focussing particularly on securing income and benefitting all areas of fundraising activity.
  • In consultation with SMH managers to develop and manage new methods of fundraising, including Trusts & Foundations and corporate giving
  • To monitor policy changes amongst funding agencies
  • To report to the Hub Strategic Board as and when required
  • Manage administration of new CIO Southampton Music Trust, including liaising with and reporting to Board of Trustees

Person Specification

You will be a strategic thinker and an ambitious fundraiser with a proven track record. Ideally you will have experience of raising funds within the arts sector, specifically music and education

You will

  • Have a proven track record of recent and substantial success in initiating, managing and delivering grant income from Trusts and foundations
  • Be ambitious and target driven
  • Have outstanding communication, networking and advocacy skills, both written and verbal
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills along with proven ability to build and maintain working relationships with potential funders
  • Possess excellent research and analytical skills
  • Have good IT skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Good understanding of music and education

Desirable

  • An understanding of current funding issues for the arts
  • Knowledge of Southampton, Isle of Wight and the surrounding area
  • A passion for the arts and working with young people
  • Be able to demonstrate a successful history of securing income from several public funding bodies

The appointment

One year maternity cover

You will be able to work on a freelance basis, and will be expected to work independently. You must be able to travel to Southampton and Isle of Wight if/as and when needed, and be available to contact during your agreed working hours.
