Term Project: UTA Bus Service Performance Evaluation

Guidelines for Trip Making

The following are a few guidelines for making trips by UTA buses, TRAX, and Frontrunner.

·  You may ride any route depending on your needs. Routes that come to the WSC and serve around the campus are Route 811 (BYU – Sandy TRAX station), 830 (Orem Frontrunner – Provo Frontrunner), 831 (UVU – Grandview - Provo Frontrunner station), 833 (Frontrunner-Provo Airport), 834 (Provo Frontrunner station – Riverwoods shopping center, and 850 (Provo Frontrunner station to Lehi Frontrunner station), etc. Visit www.rideuta.com. This one not only shows maps and schedules but also dynamic bus locator! And it is free!

·  You will make 10 trips by bus, TRAX and/or Frontrunner. Hence, you will make 5 round trips to make 10 individual trips. Of course you may make a trip to go somewhere and may be picked up by your spouse or friend; then you have made just one trip.

·  You need to use at least three different routes.

·  Your bus/TRAX/Frontrunner rides must be replacements to your car trips. Please avoid making these trips for just fulfilling the term project requirements. For instance, replace one commuting by car by one bus ride. Or, go to the University Mall by bus instead of by car for your shopping. If you regularly commute to school by bus, you can use one round trip (two trips) as a commute trip. The remaining trips must be done for other trip purposes.

·  Each trip needs one trip record. One trip consists of the journey from an origin to a destination. For instance, if you ride a bus to the Provo Towne Centre Mall from the WSC bus top, it is one trip. Your return trip is another trip as shown below. So take two trip record forms whenever you make a round trip.

Origin Destination

·  You need to make at least one transfer trip. This means you switch buses at a transfer point. For instance, you take Route 831 bus to come to WSC and switch to Route 832 or 833 to go to the Provo Temple. In this case the transfer station is WSC. Or, take Route 811 from Provo to the TRAX terminal in Sandy and go to the Temple Square. In this case the transfer station is Sandy TRAX terminal.

·  You may ride with your classmates, spouse, friends, and kids. But they should not fill in trip records. Trip records must be written just for your own trips.

·  For schedules and trip planning, you may call 1-888-743-3882 (1-888-RIDE-UTAH) between 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM Monday through Saturday.

·  Printed bus schedules are available in the bus. They are also available at the Information desk in the Wilkinson Student Center. They are of course available at the UTA website shown above. If you have a smartphone you can get schedules of the bus routes that stop at the bus stop you are standing. You just sent a text to UTA (The instructions are found on the plate attached to the bus stop sign post).

·  Please make sure you completely fill in the form. As you ride the bus take notes for writing a term project report. Please note that you will be asked to turn in 10 trip records to get full credit for the term project.
