2017 Transportation Awards Overview
As part of the 2017 TPTA Conference & Expo in Nashville, we are proud to continue the tradition of honoring some of the employees and supporters who have demonstrated a deep commitment to furthering the goals of public transportation in Tennessee. The 2017 TPTA Transportation Awards will be presented to these dedicated honorees during the Awards Banquet* on Wednesday, October 18th, except for the “Corporate Patron of the Year” award, which will be presented during the Vendor Luncheon* on Tuesday, October 17th. Award categories and nomination criteria are as follows:
Urban & Rural Driver of the Year –
Nominees should be evaluated on: Ability, Appearance, Attendance/Punctuality, Cooperation, Courtesy, Efficiency,Professionalism, and Safety. (nomination criteria details on Page 2)
Urban & Rural Support Employee of the Year –
Nominees should be evaluated on: Teamwork, Dependability, Professionalism, Attendance, and Adaptability. (nomination criteria details on Page 2)
Urban & Rural Executive or Manager of the Year –
Nominees should be evaluated on: Management Skills, Public Relations, Employee Relations, and Leadership. (nomination criteria details on Page 2)
Corporate Patron of the Year –
This award recognizes a member of the private sector whose dedicated support and commitment have contributed to public transportation.
Hall of Fame Award –
This award recognizes an individual endowed with a heart for public transportation and who has made a lifelong commitment to promoting the goals and ideals of public transportation. The recipient can be any person who you feel is deserving of recognition for their tireless efforts and dedication on behalf of public transportation.
The 2017 Awards Nomination Form is enclosed. A separate form should be submitted for each person that you are nominating in any of the five (5) awards categories listed above. Please include details of any programs, events, and/or activities, in which your nominee has excelled, in the “Additional Outstanding Characteristics” section of the form. Additional sheets (if needed) should be attached to the form. All nominations will be sent to the TPTA Executive Committee for evaluation and final award determination.
Submit your completed Award Nomination Form(s) to Jason Spain at by
no later than Friday, September 15th in order to provide the TPTA Executive Committee sufficient time to carefully consider each nominee.
We encourage your agency to have each of your nominees present to receive the recognition that they so richly deserve for their contributions to public transportation.
Urban & Rural Driver of the Year –
- Ability – Is able to interpret and respond to instructions, new situations, methods and procedures, and possesses the ability to handle multiple tasks
- Appearance – Reports to work well-groomed and wearing a regulation uniform
- Attendance/Punctuality – Reports to work on time as scheduled; provides proper notification of absences
- Cooperation – Demonstrates a willingness to assume job-related responsibility and accepts accountability for the result of their actions
- Courtesy – Interacts and gets along well with supervisors, peers, customers, and others in order to accomplish goals/objectives and complete assigned tasks
- Efficiency – Work is successfully completed within a specified time frame and performs well under pressure
- Professionalism – Incorporates the ambition to exceed customer and company expectations within himself/herself and the work unit into their daily activities; displays concern and respect for customers, peers, and supervisors
- Safety – Follows state laws and company policies in order to keep control of their vehicle; is constantly aware of their surroundings and tries to anticipate the actions of other drivers
Urban & Rural Support Employee of the Year –
(Individuals nominated for Urban & Rural Driver and Executive or Manager of the Year are not eligible.)
- Teamwork – Displays enthusiasm and a positive approach toward achieving departmental and organizational goals; interacts and gets along well with supervisors, peers, customers, and others in order to accomplish goals/objectives and complete assigned tasks
- Dependability – Work is accurately and successfully completed within a specified time frame; performs well under pressure; is able to handle multiple assignments
- Professionalism – Incorporates the ambition to exceed customer and company expectations within himself/herself and the work unit into their daily activities; displays concern and respect for customers, peers, and supervisors
- Attendance – Reports to work on time as scheduled; provides proper notification of absences
- Adaptability – Displays the willingness and ability to adjust to a change in assignments, rules and procedures in a timely manner; retains explanation of new assignments
Urban & Rural Executive or Manager of the Year –
(includes Chief Executive Officers and General Managers)
- Management Skills –Defines problems, evaluates relevant facts, and identifies and offers solutions; is decisive and understands when a decision is needed and makes clear, sound decisions that consider risk and uncertainty in the situation; has the courage to implement difficult decisions; seeks guidance appropriately
- Public Relations –Incorporates the ambition to exceed customer expectations into their daily activities; displays concern and respect for both internal and external customers
- Employee Relations –Is receptive to ideas presented by employees; creates a comfortable environment for sharing ideas; responds appropriately to employee suggestions
- Leadership – Acts with drive, confidence and personal commitment in setting and achieving realistically ambitious goals for himself/herself and the company; has a positive approach toward work; expects to achieve good results; perseveres under pressure; gives credit to the entire team
