Temporary Faculty – Community Partnership Coordinator –Coeur d’Alene Center

The Department of Curriculum & Instruction (CI), College of Education, invites applications for a Community Partnership Coordinator beginning August 2011.

Position Description:

Teaching: Teach undergraduate courses in the Education Core (Teacher Preparation) in the Curriculum and Instruction (CI) department. CI offers programs state-wide; faculty may teach classes via distance learning and/or at UI resident instructional centers and/or in partner schools and/or on the main campus in Moscow.

Scholarship: Present best practices in outreach, service-learning, and practicum experiences at local, regional, national conferences.

Service: Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with professionals in schools and UI academic departments;provide professional development opportunities for preservice and inservice teachers; serve on college and departmentcommittees; and advise undergraduate students.

The successful candidate will provide leadership in the development and organization of relationships with and among community partners in order to effectively and efficiently coordinate service-learning and preservice teacher practicum activities for the Curriculum and Instruction department’s initiatives in the UI Coeur d’Alene Center area.

Job expectations include:

  • Gather and disseminate information about community resources to the CI faculty.
  • Build and maintain strategic alliances and key partnerships with community based organizations, schools, service provider agencies, businesses, municipal entities and academic faculty in CI department and academic departments across campus.
  • Compose and disseminate correspondence regarding service-learning and practicum activities.
  • Develop key community relationships throughout the targeted area in an effort to enhance outreach, reduce redundancy in processes, and streamline service-learning and practicum activity.
  • Specifically, place and maintain practicum students in EDCI 302, 408, & 409, as well as, some practicum students in secondary methods courses.
  • Solicit partners to collaborate with the CI department, motivate them to participate in service-learning and practicum, and facilitate the coordination with those partners.
  • Establish and support collaborative agreements, both written and oral, with community partners and stakeholders.
  • Teach undergraduate courses for preservice teachers.
  • Advise preservice teachers.
  • Make presentations at events and scholarly conferences to disseminate information about the best practices and programs involved in service-learning and practicum.
  • Support the development and functioning of one or more community advisory boards in the targeted area.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes.

PREFERRED: bending/stooping, carrying, climbing, crawling / crouching, kneeling, pushing / pulling, reaching, repetitive motions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned master’s degree (doctorate preferred)in Educationby August 2011
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize technology in communications, assessment, teaching, and learning
  • Knowledge of technology and its role in education at all levels (e.g., TaskStream, SmartBoard, Blackboard, Elluminate, MSOffice Suite).
  • Experience in providing professional development to preservice and inservice teachers.
  • Experience with internal and external collaborative partnerships.
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in K-12 schools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching, advising, and supervising students preparing to teach in public school settings.

Salary: Salary is competitive and will depend upon the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
