holding provisions regarding contribution to travel expenses

at the beginning and end of long term paid traineeships at the

European Economic and Social Committee

THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COMMITTEE,

HAVING REGARDto the budget of the EESC, and in particular Chapter 14 thereof, which makes provisions for funds for traineeships in administrative units at the EESC;

HAVING REGARDto EESC Decision No 115/14 A of 27 May 2014, and in particular Article 2.2.9 thereof, which makes provisions for reimbursement of travel expenses at the beginning and end of traineeships;

HAVING REGARDto EESC Decision No 140/14 A of 9 July 2014;

WHEREASthe duties of trainees require their presence in Brussels;

WHEREASit is necessary to clarify the provisions for contribution to travel expenses at the beginning and end of traineeships;

HAS DECIDED:

  1. GENERAL

A contribution to the travel expenses at the beginning and end of long-term paid traineeships at the EESC shall be made in accordance with the provisions set out below. False declarations in order to receive the financial contribution might lead to the termination of the traineeship.

  1. TRAVEL EXPENSES

No contribution to travel expenses shall be paid where the distance between the place of residence as stated in the application form and Brussels is less than or equal to 50 km.

2.1Entitlement

Trainees shall be entitled to a contribution to the travel expenses for the arrival trip as long as they

  1. complete at least three months of traineeship;
  2. complete a "contribution for travel expenses" form within this three months period; and
  3. provide the relevant travel documents.

Trainees shall be entitled to a contribution to the travel expenses for the departure trip as long as they

  1. complete five months of the traineeship;
  2. complete a "contribution for travel expenses" form within one month after the end of the traineeship; and
  3. provide the relevant travel documents.

2.2Amount of the contribution

The following flat-rate amounts apply and are limited to a maximum contribution of 200 € for the arrival trip, and 200 € for the departure trip (maximum 400 € for arrival and departure).

2.3Place of residence

The place of residence shall be considered to be the address trainees give for correspondence on their application form. Once the candidates have received notification that a traineeship has been granted, the place of residence may no longer be altered.

2.4Distance

The distance between the place of residence and Brussels (one way) is calculated by the EESC by means of the tool used for this purpose in the institutions of the European Union.

3.FINAL PROVISIONS

3.1Decision No 140/14 A

This decision repeals and replaces Decision No 140/14 A of 9 July 2014.

3.2Entry into force

This Decision shall enter into force on the day of its publication. It shall apply to the 2015 autumn traineeship session as well as to all traineeships starting at that or a later date.
