Title- Lord of the Rings
Archetype 1 – Hero – Frodo Baggins
Frodo Baggins is the protagonist within The Fellowship of the Rings. Although Frodo has good intentions, he is a weak character who needs to realize that strength lies within an individual. He is a flawed character who matures and learns from his greediness as the movie progresses. Eventually, Frodo builds a self awareness and proves to be an extremely successful character.
Archetype 2 – Mentor –Gandolf
Gandolf oversees Frodo throughout the course of The Fellowship of the Rings. He often helps Frodo get out of difficult situations and advises him on seeking inner strength.
Archetype 3 – Herald - Elf King (Elrond Halfelvin)
Elrond is not only a messenger, but the narrator throughout The Fellowship of the Rings. He tells the Frodo to build the fellowship and how to destroy that ring.
Archetype 4- The Shapeshifter –Boromir
He is the character who tries to kill Frodo. He appears as a human with good intentions, yet is a character driven by greed, pride, and lust for power. He eventually removes himself from the fellowship.
Archetype 5- The Shadow – Frodo begins to want the ring – Frodo’s inner self and greed is a shadow that lurks within him, especially as the movie progresses.
Archetype-6 – The trickster- Sam Gamgee
Sam is the sidekick to Frodo. He adds a light hearted mood during many dangerous or serious situations throughout the course of The Fellowship of the Rings.
Archetype – 7 – Threshold Guardian – Saruman (the white)
Saruman is the head of the wizards who protects Middle Earth. He has many dark secrets that will not surface until the next segment of The Lord of the Rings.
