This signed letter confirms that I fully support the participation of the above named educator(s) in the SHIFT Lab program at TELUS Spark from July 2017 through May 2018. I understand that as part of the SHIFT Lab program, my educator(s) will enhance their practice(s) with interdisciplinary STEAM, innovation, inquiry, design thinking, growth mindset, and making concepts to create engaging, authentic learning experiences for students. By giving my support to the above-mentioned educator(s), I agree to help them in shifting their practice(s) during the 2017-18 school year for the duration of their involvement in the SHIFT Lab program.

SHIFT Lab Principal / Direct Manager Requirements:

•  Fund two release days per participant: one on October 20, 2017 and one in October 2018 for participation in the SHIFT Lab Annual Conference

•  Support the educator(s’) one-year commitment to the SHIFT Lab program

•  Provide access for TELUS Spark staff to support learning in the classroom, if applicable, as related to their Design Declaration(s)

•  Provide access for TELUS Spark staff to meet with participants at school/the organization between September 2017 and May 2018 as related to their Design Declaration(s)

SHIFT Lab Educator Requirements:

•  Commit to one year of participation in the program and complete surveys/provide feedback

•  Participate in a one-week summer intensive from:8:00am-4:00pm Jul. 17 – 21 OR Aug. 14-18, 2017

•  Participate in support sessions with TELUS Spark staff, as related to their Design Declaration

•  Participate in two full-day workshops on Saturday at TELUS Spark during the year

•  Attend the October 20, 2017 SHIFT Lab Annual Conference and submit a session to and participate in the October 2018 SHIFT Lab Annual Conference (Date TBD)

•  Pay the $350 program fee by May 26, 2017

SHIFT Lab Educator benefits and support:

·  The educator receives the summer intensive, two full-day workshops, two discussion-based conferences, course materials, and TELUS Spark staff support throughout the program

·  All-day coffee and lunch are provided during the summer intensive and the October conference(s)

I am aware that as a part of SHIFT Lab I will engage with interdisciplinary STEAM, inquiry, innovation, design thinking, growth mindset, and making/tinkering practices and concepts to enhance my instructional design and create engaging, authentic learning experiences for students.

SHIFT Lab requirements:

Nature of TELUS Spark staff visits: During the year, TELUS Spark staff may come to your learning environment (classroom, school, organization). These visits are intended to provide additional support for building your capacity with inquiry, design thinking, and making. The focus of those sessions will be on moving forward your work on an overarching question that you write in relation to your challenges and goals for the upcoming school year, called a Design Declaration.
