Romeo and Juliet & Young Love
1-page Analysis Paper
Directions: Using the information and claims presented in the article about young love and teenagers, write a 1-page analysis (3 body paragraphs- 1 intro, 2 body paragraphs- no conclusion paragraph necessary) discussing the extent of Romeo and Juliet's romance and love for one another. In this paper, you will be defending the claim that Romeo and Juliet's love is genuine and real as the author in the article suggests that first loves may actually be true love.
Make sure to include the following:
*Intro: Start by discussing the main idea/points that the author makes in the article, “Teenagers in Love”. What claims does she make about first love and its strength? Relate it to Romeo and Juliet in your thesis statement by making an argument/claim that defends the notion that young love/first love can be powerful and real.
*Body Paragraphs: Use examples from the play based on what we have read so far, and analyze the love, devotion, and passion that Romeo and Juliet have for one another. Make sure to use examples from Acts 2 & 3 predominantly.
*You must use a minimum of THREE quotations(lines spoken by either Romeo or Juliet in the play) to defend your claims about Romeo and Juliet's passion for one another.
*When quoting a Shakespeare play, keep in mind that you must cite the Act, Scene, and Line numbers. If the quote was in Act 2, Scene 2, lines 10-13, it would look like this: "Quote" (2.2.10-13).
*Don't forget to also analyze the points made by the author in the article, "Teenagers in Love" using evidence from the writer's statistics, facts and anecdotes to back up the examples you use about Romeo and Juliet’s love.
Writing Tips:
*Remember to use strong topic sentences that convey MAIN IDEAS. Don't start a paragraph with an example from the play.
*Remember to use transitions at the start of your paragraphs and in the middle to guide the reader from one point to the next
*Demonstrate your high order thinking by ANALYZING rather than just summarizing
