FAST and EASY
Teddy Bear Pattern
Materials:
- Use correct size needles for any yarn. (Weight of yarn will determine size of bear.)
- Pins to hold bear together while sewing
- Yarn tapestry needle
- Polyfil Stuffing
- Dark color yarn (black) or buttons for eyes, nose and mouth
Suggested:
Size 13 needle with Lions Brand Thick and Quick is fast, easy and cuddly! This will produce about an 11 inch tall bear.
Pattern:
Stitch- (Stockinet normally, if using novelty yarn, garter will be fine.)
Begin with Legs
CO8 and work 16 rows, break off yarn, leave stitches on the needle.
CO another 8 and work 16 rows.
(Hint: you can start from both ends of your ball of yarn and CO both legs simultaneously- just make sure not to knit them together until after the 16 rows.)
Body:
Knit/or Purl across both legs (16sts total) and work 12 rows.
Arms:
CO8 at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
Work 8 more rows.
Bind off 8 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
Head Part I & II:
Work 38 rows on these 16 sts.
Arms Part II:
CO8 at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
Work 8 more rows.
Bind off 8 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
Body Part II:
Work 12 rows
Legs Part II:
Work the first 8 stitches, work 16 rows, and Bind off.
Return to remaining 8 Stitches, work 16 rows, Bind off.
Finishing:
Fold Bear in Half and line up the sides, using pins to keep it together.
Using either mattress stitch and working on the RT side, or an easy inside-out stitch, sew around the bear leaving an opening at the crotch area.
(Hint: At the Ears and arms and feet, round off slightly)
Before inserting the stuffing, create ears:
Face/ Head Finishing:
Place your thumb at an angle to guide your needle, take a tapestry needle and same yarn and sew across the head at an angle, creating a triangle shaped ear.
Either sew in yarn eyes and nose (recommended for small children) or Use buttons to create a truly unique bear!)
Stuff:
Stuff Head, Body and extremities with polyfil.
(Hint: to add character, you can add a ball of polyfil to the snout area and that will make the nose stick out a bit.)
Close crotch area.
