General Information

Description

Students will be immersed in a variety of different educational technology projects throughout the year. Projects will consist of appropriate Arizona grade level standards and ISTE technology standards. We will be utilizing Windows 10 as our operating systems in the class and will be taking advantage of the Office 365 apps included. We will also be using gaming as a tool for learning standards. Students will be actively participating and collaborating with their peers in technology. Approved websites and applications will be updated frequently on the website to aid in the learning of difficult concepts. Please check the Hearn Academy website often to be informed about all current events involving technology.

Grading Policy

Students have been notified that behavior and participation play a role in their overall semester grade. I track daily behavior by charting their progress. At the end of the class period, students are notified if they earned a sticker or not on their classroom chart. Students who earn 10 stickers will receive one free day to explore an approved website or application at the teacher’s discretion. Students who consistently do not earn stickers due to inadequate behavior or participation will not receive the highest grade possible. Students can only earn the highest grade possible (O or A, depending on grade level) with excellent behavior, presentation, and work.

Absence/Participation Policy:

Make-up work is required for each student each day that they are absent from technology. It will be available upon request. If your child is absent, regardless if it is excused or unexcused, they will be required to complete an assignment that is current to the unit they are working on in class, for each absence. When the student turns in the assignment, they will then earn daily points they missed while they were out. However, if the student fails to turn in the corresponding assignment(s), they receive no credit for that/those day(s).

If a student is unable to participate in technology due to any reason, please send a note with them to technology, or contact me directly, and alternative assignments will be provided for that student that they can complete during regular class time. Otherwise, full participation will be expected.
