Technology in the Learning Spaces
Gathering Student & Faculty Input
Recommended Process
Revised February 26, 2010
Part of the charge to the working committee requires gathering student and faculty input to be considered in the development of a new strategy for technology in the learning spaces. After consulting with Cathy Bays, Ideas to Action Specialist in the Delphi Center, the following process is proposed:
Overall
For both faculty and students, it is recommended that input be collected using a combination of surveys and focus groups. Surveys will be used to assess current satisfaction and to identify unmet needs in the current classroom technology model. Focus groups will be used to look forward, gathering input to be considered in the development of a new strategy for technology in learning spaces.
Faculty
1. Create and post survey on U of L Today (and send to faculty distribution list in Blackboard) for all faculty to complete by March 22, 2010.
2. Identify one or two faculty members, representing each school, to participate in one of two focus groups. It is recommended that a focus group be conducted on each campus in late March/early April, led by the faculty representatives on the TLS working committee. An invitation would be sent by Drs. Hancock and Rhodes to each of the Deans soliciting participants for the focus groups.
Students
1. Create and post survey in SGA Newsletter for all students to complete by March 22, 2010. Provide incentive to complete (several $25 gift certificates to iTech Xpress).
2. Work with SGA, Frank Mianzo, and other student-focused centers to identify student representatives to participate in one of two focus groups, preferably on both campuses. Student focus groups would be conducted in late March/early April by a member of the TLS working committee.
Other Considerations
· If time permits, Cathy suggested a pilot of the survey
· May need to seek approval for surveys from Institutional Research
