Job Description

Full time: 40 Hours per week

Responsible to: Production Manager

Salary: £18,720 (£9 / hour)

Employers Pension Contribution: 1%

Holiday: 20 days Plus Public Holidays

Main Duties

1. Liaise with incoming artists, in advance of events to confirm get in times and all tech requirements.

2. To work within budget and to negotiate with all companies to reach agreed levels of provision within arts centre resources.

3. Prepare, rig, install and operate sound, lighting, multimedia and audio-visual systems for performances, events.

4. Design and specify sound and lighting designs for all types of performance, events and activities when appropriate.

5. Set the stage and auditorium for performances, events and activities.

6. Ensure the presentation of performances, events and activities to the highest possible technical and professional standards.

7. Ensure the public areas of the performance spaces are in a clean, safe and presentable condition.

8. Contribute to the care and maintenance of sound, lighting, multimedia and audio-visual equipment under the direction of the Production Manager.

9. Undertake the duties of Lead Technician for technical shifts where applicable.

10. Assist the Production Manager with the planning and administration of the Technical and Production Team.

11. Keep abreast of relevant changes and developments in the technical aspects of the arts and entertainment industry.

12. Supervise the work and schedules of casual staff and technical apprentices as and when they are needed, including providing basic technical training and mentoring as required.

13. Maintain inventories of technical equipment.

14. Attend production, technical and staff meetings as required.

15. Carry out annual Portable Appliance Testing of all technical and stage electrical equipment.

16. Deputise for the Production Manager when on leave.

17. Ensure, under the direction of the Production Manager, all duties are carried out in compliance with current Health and Safety Policy, Fire Regulations, licensing requirements and the statutory provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

18. To act as Duty Manager (duty manager role attached) in tandem with Technical duties when requested.

19. To work with the Production Manager in minimising the technical hours required wherever possible. To suggest cost savings and operational efficiencies.

20. To multitask when required and assist across the operational duties across the venue. This might include, front of house, bar supervision and serving, health and safety duties, dealing with accidents etc…

Person specification

Essential

1. Experience in sound and lights in an arts environment.

2. Working across different art forms to give high production standards

3. Knowledge of multiple working interfaces, - mixing desks, laptops, projectors etc

4. Ability to work without supervision.

5. Ability to duty manage when required.

6. Knowledge of different art forms and expectations from artists.

7. Ability to multitask

8. Cash handling and report writing

Desirable

1. First Aid Trained

2. Full Driving License

3. Qualified for PAT testing

4. Qualified in Arts Technical Support (in any capacity)

5. Experience of bar work

6. Front of House experience
