The postholder is required to plan and prioritise own work activities over the days/weeks ahead in order to meet given objectives, adjusting priorities as necessary in response to changing circumstances or problems

The postholder is required to schedule, organise and carry out a variety of tasks and duties in order to meet required time and quality standards

Representative Work Activities include:

Contribute to the development of new or improved methods/techniques/ equipment; suggest adaptations or refinements
Provide guidance and support to students/junior colleagues in own area in the use of standard equipment and techniques
Provide guidance on policies and procedures
Carry out a range of defined tests and analyses and present data for interpretation by others
Accurately complete documentation, records and reports
May attend meetings to support work activities/represent work unit
Ensure maintenance of current and future stock requirements of equipment and consumables for own work area; allocate resources cost effectively to achieve defined objectives
Monitor the performance of junior staff / Contribute to the development of new orimproved methods/ techniques/ equipment; adapt and refine work practices and procedures
Provide guidance and practical advice on policies and procedures to help resolve complicated issues/problems
Provide guidance and support to students/junior colleagues/academic staff in the use of complicated equipment and techniques; be recognised as a technical expert in own area
Carry out a broad range of tests and analyses and contribute to the interpretation of the results; prepare data sets for publication by others
Ensure accurate completion of documentation, records and reports by self or others
Attend meetings to support work activities/represent work unit
Ensure maintenance of current and future stock requirements of equipment and consumables for own work area; monitor allocation of financial and other resources to ensure operational and cost efficiency
