ANNEXURE 1A: BID BACKGROUND

1.  Introduction

The purpose of this RFB is to invite competent service providers (hereinafter referred to as “bidders”) to submit proposals for Supply SPARC T4-1 Server and UNIX backup solution for DAFF

There is a need for procurement of new server and UNIX backup solutions at Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) at Pretoria offices. The functions of these requirements are to store, retrieve and send computer files and data to other computers on a network and data backup. These services will be rendered at Harvest House building, which is situated at 20 Hamilton Street, Arcadia, Pretoria.

2.  Business Objective

DAFF data backup equipment are old and no longer functioning properly. These requirements are used to store, retrieve and send computer files and data to other computers on a network and data backup, therefor there is a need for procurement of this equipment so that DAFF can be able to back up its data on a daily basis.

It is important that this procurement be completed as soon as possible.

3.  Scope

The requirements are for the supply of Sparc T4-1 Server and UNIX backup solution for DAFF. UNIX is used to backup Geographic Information System (GIS) data. The successful service provider should migrate the old system to the new server and operationalise.

The Department does not require a COMPULSORY SITE-INSPECTION. After the Recommendation from SITA, DAFF will award the contract and sign a contract with the service provider. DAFF will issue the Order to the service provider, and manage the project (i.e. no further involvement from SITA).

3. Evaluation criteria and methodology

The evaluation of the bid shall be based on the 80/20 reference points system as per PPPFA.

1.1  SITA reserves the right to award the required services to multiple service providers.

1.2  NOTE All prices must be VAT inclusive and must be quoted in South African Rand (ZAR).

1.3  All the consortium or joint venture partners must submit a complete set of the latest audited financial statements.

1.4  Scope of Pricing: All prices quoted are the total price for the entire Scope of Required Services and Deliverables to be provided by bidder.

1.5  The bidders are required to use the exchange rate provided below to enable SITA to compare the prices provided by the s using the same exchange rate:
