2.Roll Call – Members present were: Chuck Meismer, Dcn. Rob Heiple, Amy Furgiuele, Lauren Schaumburg, Cathy Plouzek, Jenn Perino, Alysa Shaw, Brent Bursott, Alex Praul, Kathleen McLaughlin and Tina Fillmore. Members absent were: Tom Mueller, Brianne Henderson, Dave Templin, Holly Johnson, Joanne Bean, Chris Venzon, Glen Emmons, Christian Lees, Abby Craft, Bryan Reese, Robin Edwards, Matthew Kerr and Caroline Toner.

3.Approval of minutes – Meeting minutes were approved from the August 4, 2011 meeting.

4.Lay director report – Chuck

  • Chuck thanked everyone for their attendance and asked again that if you are not going to be at a Core Team meeting that you EMAIL Chuck in advance, providing him with your ministry report and/or observations, if any. We really need to have the input and awareness of all members of the Core Team on TEC matters!
  • Chuck now has the Team meals sign up sheet. Sign up now to prepare a meal during November’s team formation if you have not done so already.
  • Chuck reported that Joanne and Kelly started work on the “Final Countdown” skit. They are looking to use it possibly for the Diocesan Youth Rally or for a future Hoot. Currently it is running approximately 30 minutes in length. They will continue work and practice on the skit.

5.Spiritual director report – Dcn. Rob

  • TEC National sent a letter out to all TEC centers stating they have had a need to review the financial structure of the operation and are looking to assess a fee of $10 per candidate per weekend. This would be on top of what each center charges. Dcn. Rob discussed this issue with the other area TEC centers and the deacons at the other centers agreed that they didn’t think area TEC could afford this financial raise at this time. Now they are discussing whether to send individual letters to TEC Nationals or to send a Diocesan letter on behalf of the four Centers.
  • November team meetings will begin Wednesday, September 14th. The theme for the weekend will be “Lord, I love the way You hold me!”
  1. Assistant SD report – Tom
  • No report this month.
  1. Committee reports:
  • Kitchen – Kathleen and Dave, Bre, Caroline and Christian

oKathleen stated they were planning on making sign-up boards for kitchen duty and felt the visual aid would assist folks in signing up to help. Chuck asked that a board for security be done as well; Kath and crew will do both.

  • Public Relations/Marketing/Newsletter – Cathy and Abby

oAbby has started working on the newsletter for TEC and as always, stories and information need to be to her or Cathy by the 25th of each month. She is also putting the finishing touches on a list of all the contact information for those that do the bulletins at each local church. Cathy is hoping they can have a blurb in the bulletins the four Sundays prior to the November TEC weekend.

oA request was made to Cathy to put in a blurb in the newsletter encouraging the TEC community to update their personal information as well as to put in new Team or Wheat Team applications. We’d like to update our records overall for the community.

oA suggestion was also made to contact Craig Dyke at the Diocesan offices to see what publicity TEC could get through his resources.

  • Team Selection – Glen

oNo report.

oTina Fillmore stated she had a full team for November except for one position – she still needs a Young Disciple speaker. She will work with Glen on getting some more names.

  • Liturgy/Abrazzo & Security – Tom and Bryan

oNo report.

  • Music – Chris and Jenn

oJenn and Chris are looking at different Mass arrangements/music for the Diocesan Mass structure that will start at Advent. Prior to the change, they will begin instructing the community on the changes.

oJenn mentioned that she has one guitar student right now, Jeff McSweeney, and is still open to taking on more students if people are interested. She asked Cathy to possibly put a blurb in the newsletter about the lessons.

  • Wheat team – Holly and Alysa

oNo report.

  • Hoot – Joanne, Alex and Brent

oThe Hoot for November will be at Holy Family.

oAlex informed the team that ReZound had been booked for November’s Hoot but she subsequently has not been able to get a hold of them to finalize details. It was suggested she contact the Bloomington/Normal TEC office to see if she could get the phone number of some of the participants to try and get a response via phone versus email.

oBrent commented that he will need help with the equipment at the November Hoot, depending on what ReZound will provide or not. A suggestion was made again to the Hoot ministry to think about developing a “Hoot Crew” or “Hoot Roadies” to help load in and out of Hoots (volunteers designated to help with Hoot items overall).

oAlex is looking to get a new hard drive for the Hoots. The previous one has “died” and they are struggling to retrieve the information off the unit. A suggestion was made to have Paul Henderson see if he or his contacts could assist with that task.

  • Ignite – Robin and Tina, Lauren and Matthew

oTina mentioned that for Ignite on the 7th they had worked on the “Final Countdown” skit and will continue to assist with that effort.

oTina also mentioned that she would like to have a Bible Studies series over the winter months. A suggestion was made to contact Tom Bruner and the FOCUS staff at Bradley to see if they can assist in the planning or moderation of some of the groups.

  • Secretary – Amy and Bryan

o“Safe Environment” training for November’s team did not occur on the 7th due to a flat tire (!) but Amy will meet with individuals needing the training to see if an alternative date can be arranged. According to Tina, it seemed only one person from her team thought she would need the presentation. Amy will come to the first meeting to talk paperwork and compliance obligations with the team.

  1. Teen Time:
  • The only comment made was that more involvement and participation in things like the skit or in the Youth Rally is needed. A suggestion was made to carpool to “off site” events, perhaps increasing attendance. More effort will need to be made on this issue.
  1. Old Business/Tabled Action Items:
  • Kathleen and Jenn revealed the first revision of the TEC flyer. Everyone was very pleased with the look of the document and a few small edits were suggested. Overall, it will be a great new tool to use in promoting TEC.
  1. New Business/Additional Comments:
  • There will be a Diocesan in-service day for all teachers on October 7th. Jenn Perino stated it might be a good opportunity to get some information about TEC out to all the pertinent staff at Notre Dame. Dcn. Rob and Chuck will follow up on what can be done at this event on behalf of TEC.
  • Kathleen is looking for individuals for the 40 Days of Life event, praying in front of a local abortion clinic. She suggested/asked if this might be an Ignite activity? Will follow up with Robin Edwards.
  • A comment was made, yet again, that the Peoria TEC web page drastically needs updating. Who is currently responsible and how are edits made? Does Corey Wanless still have all the passwords/admin rights? More than one person needs to have the capacity to update and make changes on the page. It’s hard to promote the program with such an outdated tool. Help is needed, if anyone has an idea of who to contact. Please report to Kathleen McLaughlin if you do.
  1. Determination of Future Agenda:
  • Contact Chuck Meismer or Amy Furgiuele to add anything to the agenda.
  1. Adjournment and Closing Prayer – Meeting was closed at 7:23 pm.

THE NEXT REGULAR MEETING OF THE TEC CORE TEAM WILL BE OCTOBER 6THAT 6 PM AT THE SPALDING RENEWAL CENTER. MARK YOUR CALENDARS ACCORDINGLY!!
