HURLING

The junior hurlers defeated Barrow Rangers at the second time of asking to win the Paddy Cahill Cup Final in a tough tussle played in St. John’s Park on Saturday night last. Conahy were deserving winners but will be looking to improve upon their performance when they face Emeralds in the Northern Junior League/Championship this coming Sunday morning at 11.00 a.m. Conahy led by 0-11 to 1-7 at half-time having conceded a goal just before the break. Conahy missed a number of chances throughout the second half but were able to score enough to keep their opponents at bay. In the end, they won out on a 0-21 to 1-15 score line.

The annual Kevin Bergin Memorial Under-10 Hurling tournament takes place on this Saturday, August 12th, in the Polo Grounds. Teams from Tullaroan, St. Patrick’s, St. Martin’s, Lisdowney, Castlecomer and Conahy will take part once again, with the action commencing at 11.00 a.m. The tournament is run as per the “Go Games” model, ensuring an equal numbers of matches for all teams. Best of luck to all the teams taking part.

BALLYRAGGET CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY

All locals are invited to join in celebrating 100 years of the Ballyragget Co-operative Society. OnFriday, August 11th,Glanbia Agribusiness Ballyragget will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Ballyragget Co-operative in 1917. An event to mark this occasion will take place onthis Friday, August 11that the Glanbia Agribusiness Ballyragget Co-op store, Bridge Street, Ballyragget from12.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. There will be lots to see and do on the day with a local history display, the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, children’s entertainer, vintage tractor display, free barbeque & more.

There will also be big savings to be made across the weekend with discounts on clothing & footwear, farm hardware, veterinary & agri chemicals, GAIN Agri and Equine feeds, with Double Loyalty Points on Plants, and price reductions on Furniture & BBQs & more together with lots of spot prizes and customer giveaways throughout the day. LOTTO RESULTS

The numbers in the recent Conahy Shamrocks GAA Club Lotto draw were 10, 22 and 27. There was no jackpot winners, so the consolation prize winners were the Helen Butler, Mary Murphy, James Smith, Tony Duggan and Mairead Buggy. The promoters’ prize winners wereConor Delaney,Brian Lacey and Larry Bergin. This week’s jackpot now increases to €5,000.
