Team Managers

Preparation

  • Provide your contact information (home phone, cell phone, email) to the Registrar () to ensure you are included in the coaches/managers email list and Kennedy Hockey contact list.
  • Go to the Kennedy Website and under the coaches tab fill out the online registration. There will be no charge to register with USA Hockey. Once you complete the screening on MN Hockey, forward the copy of the submission confirmation to the Kennedy registrar.
  • Talk to your head coaches and get information on their expectations of you.
  • Read the Kennedy Hockey Team Manager Handbook and attend the Team Manager Information meeting.
  • Become familiar with the Kennedy Hockey website. You will get access from the registrarto edit your team pages which include photos, team page, calendar, and DIBS.
  • Create a Parent Contact list with emails and phone numbers for yourself. (Make sure you know who really needs a call instead of an email.)
  • Create a team roster card with the players’ names and jersey numbers for family reference. Create a contact card with parents’ cell phone information. These lists can both be combined on one laminated card.
  • Create a Parent Contact list with emails and phone numbers for yourself. (Make sure you know who really needs a call instead of an email.)
  • You will receive a team binder from the Kennedy registrarto keep all your team required information. Bring it to every game and practice.
  • Have each player sign a Code of Conduct form and a Medical Consent form. Collect these forms and turn them into Lisa Christensen. She will add them into our team binder which you will receive once complete.
  • Schedule a parent/team meeting for the coaches and parents to get to know each other. Make sure you briefly go over the following topics:
  • Volunteer sign-up sheet (if you cannot get parents to help out then you are responsible)
  • Year end party coordinator
  • Parent get-together coordinator
  • Out of town tournament coordinator
  • Yearbook/photos
  • Community event coordinator

Tournaments

Tournaments are chosen prior to the start of the season. They were chosen before we became team managers. If you do help with this pick one out of town tournament, the rest should be within an hour of the cities.

If you are lucky enough to get a parent to volunteer to be the out of town tournament coordinator, their responsibilities are:

  • Reserving hotel block (reasonable rate and breakfast included)
  • Meal plans
  • Organizing snacks
  • Taking t-shirt orders and collecting payments
  • Informing families of plans and maps

The hosting tournament organizers will contact you for a copy of our team roster and information on t-shirt orders.

You will be required to bring the official roster to the tournament. You may also need to show code of conduct and consent to treat forms so make sure to bring them as well.

You may need to pay a gate fee at the tournament. If so, bring the team checkbook.

Team Budget

The Treasure will give you the information you need to be a signer for your team’s checkbook. You will need to go into the Richfield Bloomington Credit Union on LyndaleAv to sign some paperwork.

The Treasurer will send you your team’s budget. The budget will include the amount the team can spend on ice time, Etrain/dryland time, and other misc expenses. Any amounts you do not use will come off the family bills. Be careful not to spend more than you have!

  • Hotel expense – Have the Treasure reserve and pay for the coaches’ rooms using the Kennedy credit card. Typically you will only have money for the out of town tournament. Parent coaches hotel rooms are not paid for.

Pictures

You are responsible to let parents know of picture times and places. You will be notified when the pictures come in and are responsible to distribute them.

Ice and Etrain Draw

You will be invited to the Kennedy/Jefferson/Girls ice draw. You should meet with the coaches before attending the ice draw to establish a plan. Sharing ice with another team will save money. It is beneficial to plan to select ice times together with another team during the ice draw. Negotiating shared ice time after the draw is more time consuming and more difficult to get the time you need.Once the draw is complete you will receive an email to verify the calendar of ice and Etrain dates and times. SHARE AS MUCH ICE AS YOU CAN. This will save money and help our skaters!

Scrimmages

You may wish to schedule a scrimmage or two with other teams. Be careful you do not go over your allowed number of games/scrimmages in the season. The HDC will be able to tell you how many games you can have. It changes by level.

You will need to have a referee for any scrimmage. You will need to pay them with your team checkbook.

Games

Verify games on our calendar are correct on the D6 website and also the arbiters’ website.

Our team is responsible to supply a scorekeeper and a penalty box volunteer for all away games. Our team is responsible to supply a timekeeper and a penalty box volunteer for all home games.

You will be given a pack of D6 scoresheets to use.

Create roster labels using the template found on the managers tab on the website. You will need four labels per game, including tournament games.

The scorekeeper and the referees sign the scorecard.

The home team manager is responsible to fax the completed score sheet to District 6 after the game. Follow instructions on District 6 Hockey Website.

DIBS

Enter a DIBS event for each volunteer opportunity. Parents can then sign up on the website for volunteer shifts. They can also view how many hours they have completed and will receive an email reminder of upcoming shifts. When creating a Dibs shift be sure to remove the calendar tag otherwise they will make our calendar cluttered.

Every few days log into DIBS as an administrator and mark the DIBS events as complete so families will get credit. This is not automated.
