Purpose of PreK-3 District Team:

Guide and make decisions about PreK-3rd grade efforts& identify and engage both school and community partners as key participants.

KSD Mission:

As trustees for the community's schools, the board is responsible and accountable for vision, structure, advocacy, and accountability. Specifically, the board's functions lie in the following areas:

  • Adopting policy.
  • Planning and assessing short and long-term goals.
  • Authoring and reviewing the district's Strategic Plan.
  • Acting as a liaison between the community and the district.
  • Hiring and evaluating the superintendent.
  • Advocating for students, the district, and public education.
  • Approving a budget that reflects the priorities of the district and community through responsible use of monies.

Cross Sector Work

  • Develop mechanisms, resources and structures that reflect and support and sustained shared vision collaborative relationships and mutual accountability between 0-5 and K-12. Identify and create formal linkages with primary early learning programs to articular elementary schools (feeder patterns).

Family Engagement

  • Families are actively and systematically involved with their PreK-3rd teachers and administrators as full partners in helping their children develop learn and achieve.

Continuity and Pathways

  • Every child, especially those most at risk for school failure has access to a continuity of services and a clear pathway of high quality educationPreK-3rd grade.

Meetings are scheduled for the 4th Monday of the month. All meetings will be at the Kent Valley Early Learning Center located at 317 4th Av. Kent, WA - 253-373-7600 from 4:00 to 5:30 PM

A Team Site link invitation will be sent to all committee members to join the Early Learning PreK-3 Steering Committee site. The purpose of this site is to keep all committees member engaged in ongoing communication between meetings in addition to email and to share key documents.

Reporting Plan

Page and Alice communicate monthly to Louanne Decker, Chief Officer of Academics and Innovation, Dr. Watts via a written report. This information is shared with the District Chiefs and with the school board during weekly Superintendent Chief Meetings and at Board meetings as appropriate.

There is an Early Learning page on the KSD website which will be updated when there is new information to share.

Decision Making Procedure

  1. Consensus decision-making will be the primary method utilized for decision making. In a professional setting, this can be defined as an acceptable solution, one that can be supported, even if not the “favorite” of each individual.
  2. If consensus cannot be reached, a voting mechanism will be utilized where 80% consensus of those present will need to be reached to move forward.
