March 17 – Feb 2018 / Partnered with Professor XXX to lead a team of 8 Researchers as part of the XXX project. Under Professor XX’s guidance lead an ancillary research team of 4 to support major research project. Of the 4 Research Assistants, I have recruited two as HDR students. / xxx has shown initiative in identifying Professor XX, an expert Research Leader. He has since won additional funding for the XXX research project and is leading a small supplementary team of researchers to support the data collection and analysis of XX project.
xxx is still working with Professor XX to develop his stakeholder engagement skills. He will benefit in this are by attending the X industry Association national conference in June 2018.

  • Course XXX and Course XXX was approved by XXX. Course XXX required some amendments in content structure to be compliant but was approved on re-submission.
/ xxx’s application for approval of online delivery was efficient and effective. He showed resilience and determination to address concerns regarding course XXX and made the necessary changes promptly to deliver XXX online in Semester 1.
I was pleased by xxx’s collaborative approach working with XXX in IT and the course coordinators to deliver effective transition to online delivery. Student communication ensured a smooth change.
Impact on Student Learning - Approach (Attitude) /
  • Lead by example in my supervision of HDR students.
/ Ongoing 2017-2018 / Graduated 3 HDR students and recruited two more. Was approached by a third and fourth student who requested I supervise their HDRs. Given workload I arranged for two students to be supervised by Professor XX and assisted with his funding application for XXX linkage grant to fund PhD student’s research. / xxx demonstrated strong leadership through his supervision of students and in his mentoring of XXX.
He has taken on a significantly higher supervision workload and has produced great results. These outcomes demonstrate, in this area, he has necessary skills to be considered suitable for promotion to Associate Professor in the near future.
Impact on Student Learning - Professional Development & Disciplinary Knowledge / Work with XXX Associate lecturer, meeting at least monthly, to assist her to develop the necessary skills to be converted to an ongoing position. / Ongoing 2017-2018 /
  • Arranged for XXX Associate Lecturer to assist me with supervision duties of HDR students XX and XX.
  • Acted as a mentor for XXX Associate Lecturer – meeting monthly for coaching sessions.
  • Provided XXX guidance for writing grant applications, resulting in obtaining a linkage grant of $35,000 for XX project.
/ This is a really good result and demonstrates xxx’s ability as a teacher, both of his own students and as a peer to peer teacher.

Was unable to incorporate teaching methods of providing clinical demonstrations at workshop due to budget constraints and not having XXX equipment. / I am pleased with xxx’s attendance at XXX. I will put xxx in touch with XXX industry partner to discuss potential options for industry sponsorship of XXX equipment to conduct demonstrations at mid-term workshops in 2019.

Impact on Educational Environment - Pedagogical Innovation / Work with Professor XXX and HoS to seek accreditation of course XXX by XXX / By July 2017 / Accreditation by XX was provided in August 2018. We were not able to receive accreditation in time for semester 2 2018 because of delays by the review panel of XXX but will be able to advertised the course as being accredited for the new intake of course students in 2019 / This was a good outcome and being the only university in Australia offering XXX course accredited by XXX will boost the School’s reputation as being the best in Australia.

/ This is a strong outcome. Both XX and XX are high quality journals and difficult to achieve publications.
I attended XX conference and was pleased with the feedback of xxx’s paper by peers and industry partners.
Scholarly Impact - Output / Publication of XX textbook 3rd edition as co-author with XX and XX (write 3 new chapters, revision of three existing chapters) / By Nov 2017 / XX book was published in September 2017. I contributed 3 of the 6 new chapters in the book and revised 4 of the 10 existing chapters. The textbook has been listed as the primary subject text for XXX course in 4 universities (UNSW, USYD, Griffith, Curtin) around Australia and 1 in Singapore for 2018 / xxx’s contribution to this text is well beyond what might be expected by a Senior Lecturer, particularly given his workload in other areas. To achieve primary textbook status for 5 universities’ XX course is an additional feat. xxx’s research and editing efforts towards publication should be commended.
Scholarly Impact - Recognition and Esteem / Publication of XX textbook per above – improve CI to at least XX / Nov 2017 - Ongoing / Per above, XXX is expected to be considered the leading textbook in course XXX over the coming years. We have had strong support from GO8 faculties of Engineering indicating their support to use this textbook as a teaching aid in 2019. / A great example of xxx’s collaborative efforts with XXX and XXX from Sydney University. xxx’s contribution to the text indicates he will be a future leader in the area of XXX research and a foundational thinker for other research projects. Congratulations xxx.
Research Capability Development - Funding / Achieve ARC linkage grant of $70,000 for research into XXX / By May 2017 / Successful grant application. Research has commenced on XXX with findings expected to be complete in May 2019. / Congratulations to xxx on obtaining this funding and for the progress he has made to date.

XXX Associate Lecturer has taken on supervision of basic XX tasks for XX and HH HDR students. / A great example of xxx’s leadership. I would like xxx to continue to develop XX Associate Lecturer by assigning more complex tasks to her to undertake in research and supervise XX and XX HDR students. xxx has a heavy workload, and while this is admirable, he also has to learn delegation. I have asked xxx to focus on priority tasks for this project and to determine what activities he can delegate to free up some of his time.
Innovation & Research Leadership - Commercialisation, Industry and Community Engagement / Work with XXX Industry Partner and use their commercial research lab to conduct experiments for XX testing for XXX arc Linkage grant project. / Ongoing as required / Engaged with XXX to allow us to use XX lab and XX equipment 1 day per week for 6 month to test XXX / Great outcome and a good opportunity for XX Associate Lecturer to build Industry contacts.
Research creating social and economic benefits - Research Culture and Leadership / Start to develop a research profile through publication of XXX textbook and ARC Linkage project XXX / Feb 2017 - ongoing / The publication of XXX textbook and my work with industry partners XXX on the ARC Linkage Project has CI and research profile improved. I was approached by 4 HDR candidates to supervise their work this year but due to workload took on 2 (in addition to the 3 that graduated this year) and referred the other two to XXX.
After the publication of XXX textbook I have been invited to speak at XXX conference in China in December 2018 and XXX Conference in New Zealand in May 2019. / A great result for a Senior Lecturer. xxx has demonstrated he has the necessary skills and qualities to be considered for promotion to Associate Professor in the near future.
