Request form

The Grimwade Centre for Materials Conservation (GCCMC) at The University of Melbourne seeks your permission to use information gained from either the treatment, visual examination, material sampling or analysis of your cultural material for research, training and education purposes. The information used may be in the form of written documentation or an image used for lectures or talks and does not include the reproduction or publication of images. If and when reproduction or publication of images is required, further permission would be sought.

From time to time cultural material presents interesting issues or provides information that would be extremely useful for its research and education programs. It can also offer insights that would assist the conservation profession. Eduction, training and research are a major part of the work undertaken by GCCMC. GCCMC is actively involved in education programs offered through the Masters by Coursework And Minor Thesis (Cultural Materials Conservation), Masters by Research, Post Graduate Diploma (Cultural Materials Conservation), PhD, the Graduate Certificate in Art Conservation (with AHCCA) and the Graduate Certificate in Art Authentication (with MUPrivate) Masters by Research.

The opportunity to present information gained from treatments and/or analysis undertaken at GCCMC would improve the range and quality of information available to students. Research at GCCMC has focussed on developing comparative databases on the materials and techniques of Australian and international artists. This includes documenting frames, supports, colourmen stamps, paint and pigments types, signatures, underdrawing and other relevant information. Information of this kind helps increase our understanding in areas of conservation, such as the materials and techniques used, as well as in areas of archaeology, art and cultural history. With the recent growth of GCCMC’s education programs it is the intention to broaden these databases to objects and textiles conservation.

If you are willing for selected information from the treatment and/or analysis of your cultural material to be used for GCCMC’s education and research programs, could you please sign the section below to indicate you are willing to grant the University a non-exclusive, world-wide and royalty free license to use the information we gain in the analysis of your art work for research and education programs. This information will only be accessed and used by staff from GCCMC. If permission is not granted the information gained from the treatment and /or analysis of your cultural heritage material will remain confidential.
