Constitution for
Teachers of Today and Tomorrow (TOTT)

Article I – Name and Purpose
Section 1 – Name
The official name of this organization shall be Teachers of Today and Tomorrow,
hereinafter referred to as TOTT.
Section 2 – Purpose
As scholar-servants we aim to share God’s love by building a support system
within the local education community to inform current and future education
students about the rewards and challenges of the teaching profession.
Article II – Membership
Section 1 – Qualifications for Membership
If a current or potential education student attends a meeting and desires to be a
member, s/he will be received as a member. There will be no financial obligations. Students wishing to terminate their membership are asked to notify an officer.
Section 2 – Types of Members
There are no levels of membership. We will not have honorary members.
Section 3 – Duties of Members
Active members are asked to participate in regular club meetings, events and
service projects.
Article III – Club Officers, Election Procedure, Removal Procedure
Section 1 – Officers
- President
- Qualifications: The TOTT president shall be an education student in good standing. S/he shall meet GPA requirements outlined for students in the education major. The TOTT president should be a visionary leader who demonstrates strong organizational skills.S/he should be able to manage and delegate tasks appropriately.
- Duties:
- Open/close called meetings
- Open with teacher devotional/prayer
- Oversee all officers’ duties
- Call emergency meetings
- Serve as contact person for special guests
- Vice President
- Qualifications: The TOTT vice president shall be an education student in good standing. S/he shall meet GPA requirements outlined for students in the education major. S/he should be able to function well in supportive roles and in leadership roles.
- Duties:
- Oversee advertising responsibilities
- Share responsibilities with the president
- If the president cannot be present at a meeting, the VP will take over the president’s duties. They will have discussed what needs to be done previously, so all aspects will be covered.
- Secretary
- Qualifications: The TOTT secretary shall be an education student in good standing. S/he shall meet GPA requirements outlined for students in the education major. S/he should have excellent organizational skills.
- Duties:
- Take attendance
- Record notes/minutes
- Deliver minutes at the following meeting
- Make any copies that are needed
- Treasurer
- Qualifications: The TOTT treasurer shall be an education student in good standing. S/he shall meet GPA requirements outlined for students in the education major. S/he should be organized, trustworthy, and fiscally responsible.
- Duties:
- Organize and keep track of expenditures
- Coordinate fundraising activities
- Research cost of activities and the most cost-efficient manner of spending money. *All decisions will be made as a team.
- File required financial reports
- Public Relations (optional office)
- Qualifications: The TOTT public relations officer shall be an education student in good standing. S/he shall meet GPA requirements outlined for students in the education major. S/he should possess strong oral and written communication skills.
- Duties:
- Coordinate (in conjunction with VP and other officers) the dissemination of information about TOTT-sponsored events.
- (In the event that this office goes unfilled, the rest of the officers will collectively assume this responsibility.)
- Activities Coordinator (optional office)
- Qualifications: The TOTT activities coordinator shall be an education student in good standing. S/he shall meet GPA requirements outlined for students in the education major. S/he should possess strong interpersonal skills.
- Duties:
- Assist other officers and members in planning and delivering TOTT-sponsored events.
- (In the event that this office goes unfilled, the rest of the officers will collectively assume this responsibility.)
Section 2 – Election Procedure
- Elections must be completed according to the timeframe provided in the Election Policy established by the Student Programs Office. A call for nominations shall be issued electronically, or by another means approved by the current officers, during the spring semester. Education students may self-nominate, or they may be nominated by a peer who is also an education student. Once a ballot has been compiled, the current officers shall make arrangements to hold a paper ballot election either in a general meeting of the membership, or at a voting table in the CampusCenter. Current officers manning the election shall have a list of eligible voting members. Members shall sign in to cast their paper ballot. A simple majority (50%+1) of the votes cast must be obtained in order to be elected to an officer position.
- New officers shall be installed at the end of the spring semester each year. Outgoing officers shall orient incoming officers to their duties and responsibilities.
- In the event of a vacancy in an officer position during the year, that vacancy shall be filled during the first normal meeting after the vacancy. Those wishing to fill the vacancy may self-nominate, or they may be nominated by another club member. A simple majority (50%+1) of votes from those members in attendance must be obtained in order to be elected to an officer position.
Section 3 – Removal Procedure
In the event that a club officer fails to meet the criteria to continue in her/his elected position (i.e. the officer falls below the required GPA for the major, is no longer considering an education-related vocation, or fails to perform the duties of her/his office), then the club advisor shall meet with said officer to discuss remediation and/or removal options. If is it determined that the officer should be removed, then a replacement election shall occur following the guidelines stated in Article III Section 2 clause 3.
Article IV – Meetings
Section 1 – Regular Meetings
Meetings of the general membership shall be held 2-3 times per semester. The
president will call general meetings to order and will preside over any business
that needs to be conducted. A quorum shall consist of at least four members that
are not officers. Club officers shall meet monthly for planning purposes.
Section 2 – Special Meetings
The president has the right to call special meetings of the general membership as
necessary; such meetings require at least two days notice. A quorum shall consist
of at least four members that are not officers.
Article V – Committees(This section is not applicable to TOTT.)
Article VI – Amendment Procedure
Section 1 – Proposals
Club officers or the club advisor may propose amendments to the TOTT
constitution at an officers’ meeting. Amendments that are proposed verbally will
be noted in meeting minutes, and amendments that are proposed in writing will be
attached to meeting minutes.
Section 2 – Ratification Process
If an amendment is needed, ¾ of the officers and the advisor must approve it.
