Focus: Read and understand complex literature independently using the skills and strategies we have practiced in class.

Daily Expectations:

BE A STUDENT!

1)POLITE: This means you will embody the word “RESPECT” in words and actions.

Consequence: Immediate conference/possible administrative intervention/possible parent conference.

2)PROMPT: Students will arrive to class on time/ be in assigned seat.

Consequence: SVMS late pass policy will be strictly enforced (see planner).

3)PREPARED:Students will have their binder, planner, novel, and writing utensil each day.

Consequence: Student will go to locker, get required material, and will be issued a late pass.

4)ASSIGNMENT POLICY: Students who are absent are responsible for all work missed.

Consequence: Full credit given for the assignments turned in on time. Half credit is given for assignments turned in one day late. Zero credit is given after that time.

5)CHEATING: Cheating on an assignment, project, test, quiz, etc will not be tolerated.

Consequence: A zero grade will be issued/ possible administrative intervention/parent conference.

6)REWARDS: Praise, positive phone call/email home, most importantly self-pride and success!

ALL SVSD and SVMS POLICIES WILL BE ENFORCED.

Tests and Quizzes: Students can expect various forms of evaluation to take place over the course of the semester. You will demonstrate often your comprehension of materials and skills taught.

Homework: The number of daily assignments varies with each lesson. These assignments form a substantial portion of the final grade. Please use your planners. Full credit is only given on the day the assignment is due. Half credit will be rewarded for work turned in one day late.

Evaluation: Your final grade is based on scores accumulated from homework, binder organization, quizzes, exams, projects, and class participation.

Daily Routine:

1)Warm-up: Many days will require you to complete a warm up the first seven to ten minutes of class. This warm up will help you develop various reading skills. Each activity should be done, dated, and kept in order in your reading binder. Your binder will be checked throughout the semester.

2)Housekeeping:Planner, attendance, questions and concerns addressed.

3)Lesson

4)Once a week you will be given the opportunity to read silently for a portion of the class.
