Course Description: This course addresses the practical problems related to understanding the types and stages of human growth and development, recognizing effects of heredity and environment on human growth and development, meeting the needs of exceptional children, promoting optimum growth and development in the infancy, toddler, preschool, middle childhood, adolescent, and adulthood stages. Careers in child/human development are explored. Leadership development will be provided through the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

Learning Resources: Children; The Early Years (text) by Celia Anita Decker,* selected videos, magazines, selected websites, guest speakers, early childhood resource book. There is no textbook fee in this class; we have a classroom set of text books which will be during your class period. If you need to take a book home, please check it out with Mrs. Williams.

Required Materials: Notebook, Agenda, pen or pencil, - EVERY DAY!

Assessment: Grades are based on average of total points. The school grading scale will be used.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES:

1. Be in your seat with your materials when the bell rings. Start your bell work.

2. If you have missed a day (or class period), get a note from the attendance clerk before coming to class.

3. If you have been absent, place note in pink basket upon arrival. Check posted lesson plans and handout bin for missed work. If you have an excused absence and need to make up a test, make arrangements with the teacher. YOU HAVE ONE WEEK TO MAKE UP WORK WITH NO PENALTY.

4. If you finish your work early, work on an Anchor activity.

5. Please stay in your seat until the dismissal bell rings.

BEHAVIOR:

1. Behave and speak in a respectful manner.

2. No talking while the teacher or another classmate has the floor.

3. Remember, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. No put downs.

4. Help take care of our classroom by returning materials to their proper places, throwing trash away, and pushing your chair the table under when you leave.

5. No food or drink allowed in the classroom, except water.

6. No personal electronic devices allowed in during instructional time. With teacher permission, they may be used during independent work time.

7. Students must ask permission before using computer or entering “Fancy That”.

8. All school policies will be consistently enforced (cell phones, dress code, cheating, etc.)

FCCLA - All students enrolled in a FACS class are encouraged to join the student organization, FCCLA (formerly FHA). Involvement in the club provides opportunities for leadership development, community service, making new friends and having fun! Dues are $12.00.

Courtesy Passes – all students are issued three courtesy passes per nine weeks to be used for the restroom, locker, nurse, etc. If you leave the room, you must sign out next to your name on the clip board. Students who do not redeem courtesy passes will be rewarded with 25 bonus points. Any student who has special needs due to a medical condition should submit a note or have parent call/email the teacher.
