Post: Mentor/Resource Worker

Purpose:

The primary purpose of this post is to work pro-actively withmen who have complex needs, are affected by offending/sexual offending and potentiallysubstance misuse. The post holder will be required to assess the needs of individuals referred to the service and plan and deliver a proportional response to the presenting issues. Work will be delivered through one to one mentoring intervention on an outreach basis in the Perth and Kinross geographic area.

Additionally, you will be expected to contribute to the development of this service by liaising with the lead partner agency as well as other agencies and professional workers in order toidentify specific gaps in provision and promote the social inclusiveness of the individuals the service works with, particularly those who have committed an offence of a sexual nature.

Please note that for this post it is a genuine occupational requirement for the postholder to be male due to the client group. This is in line with Equality Act 2010 guidelines.

Job Description:

  • To assess, plan and deliver a needs led approach for males who have complex needs, and who have been involved in offending/sexual offending and potentially substance misuse
  • To contribute to service development and promote the inclusiveness of the individuals the service works with
  • To manage caseloads and mentoring capacity
  • To maintain high levels of confidentiality within the service.
  • Participate and contribute to own personal development through training and supervision
  • To work effectively as part of a multi-skilled team, contributing to the development TCA Mentoring.
  • To uphold the agency Equal Opportunities Policy and to work within current legislative guidelines including the Data Protection Act.
  • To keep accurate case notes and prepare written reports, as appropriate, including the provision of information and reports requested by line management.
  • To liaise with other agencies and professional workers.
  • To assist with the identification and monitoring of trends and patterns male offenders/sexual offendersand potentially their substance misuse within the local community.
  • To promote and facilitate user involvement in the development and delivery of the service.
  • To attend and contribute to staff team meetings.
  • To contribute to policy discussions, reviews and evaluations as required.
  • To promote service user involvement in service provision and development.

Health and Physical / Ability to participate in activities and other pursuits that adults are likely to be interested in.

Experience / Ability to work as part of a team
Knowledge of Adult Protection
Knowledge of Child Protection
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
Experience of working with men on a 1 to 1 mentoring basis.
Experience of contributing to policy discussions, reviews and evaluations / Experience of problematic, substance misuse
Experience of working with offenders/sex offenders and complex needs
Skills (Generalist) / Will demonstrate an understanding of person-centred practice and the ability to put this into practice
Ability to motivate service users/ engagement with universal services.
Will be competent in utilising IT equipment
Skills (Specialist) / Will be able to evidence an ability to use formal assessment tools
Ability to liaise, negotiate and work with other agencies.
Will demonstrate an ability to identify key needs and translate these into an individually tailored approach
Proven Report Writing skills / An understanding of the Criminal Justice System
Understanding of gender specific needs of male offenders in line with current research and development
Have a non-judgemental approach to substance use/sexual offending/offendingand a commitment to the harm minimisation approach which informs agency ethos
Will have a sound understanding of the current legislation with regards to working with vulnerable adults
Education & Qualifications / The successful candidate will hold a relevant professional qualification or significant relevant experience
Will hold a current clean driving licence and have access to a car / First aid certificate.
Inter-personal & Social Qualities / Ability to engage with a wide range of individuals and organisations.
Ability to challenge discrimination.
Experience of being able to encourage, develop and motivate others.
Willing to work out-with normal working hours. / A willingness to undertake further training relevant to the post.
