Twitter, Facebook, and Google+-- all very diverse, competitive forms of Social Media.Social media, compared to writing and sending letters, is better because it’s virtually instant and accessible through the internet, so it’s available at your convenience and you are able to respond or start a new conversation whenever is best for your own personal schedule. Relationships sometimes rely on social media to function, and we live in a generation that is equally dependent on social media for majority of our communication. Out of all Social Media web sites, Twitter is the best one for socializing with your peers and family members, because it is a micro-blogging service. “Micro-blogging is a way of sending very short messages over the internet to other people.” Twitter uses micro-blogging by only allowing each post, or “tweet” to be 140 characters, including punctuation, spaces, characters in text, and links. Since each tweet can only be 140 characters, it can strengthen your writing abilities by forcing you to make your point in a very limited amount of space. The original purpose of Twitter was to allow users to share what they are doing, in “real time” but now, Twitter is mainly used by corporate businesses to stay in touch with their clients and competitors. Twitter, following directly behind Facebook is one of the 2 most popular worldwide, social media websites. Twitter is the best social media network because it is easier to make new contacts and extend your friends circle using direct tweets, rather than using general Facebook posts. Another benefit to using Twitter, your tweets can be rebroadcasted as re-tweets, where your follower posts it to their profile, using your name. A popular feature of Twitter is “hash tags” or words or phrases prefixed with the # symbol. (I.e, “I’m having trouble writing this argumentative essay. #highschoolprobz”)Since multiple people may use the same hash tag, you can search a large group of tweets by the hash tagthat they all have in common. As of June 2012, Twitter has 140M+ active users, and they create over 1 billion Tweets every 3 days. Using social media strengthens our connections with our past, our present, and our future. Because of social media like Twitter, people can become reconnected with the people and places from their past. Along with their past, people who participate in social medias such as Twitter experience news and events of today in real-time. Twitter allows them to experience the events more quickly and more personally. Twitter has also become a tool used to meet new people and connect with others who share the same goals and ideas as you, outside of your local community and current friend circle. Twitter also aids the cultural divide of different religions and countries. Different ideas, tactics, and theories from outside of a person’s normal social circle are passed around using Twitter and are more socially acceptable and with the views of primary sources. Twitter is by far the best form of social media because it allows users to post freely, using microblogging, connect with others who share the same ideas as them, and communicate with friends and family members from their past and keeps them updated with events and news from the present and lets them connect with others who will be beneficiary to their future.
