(Application will be maintained on file for 60 days.)

All applicants must submit an executed contract signed and currently dated by a representative from the taxicab company with which the driver will be contracting. Once an applicant has submitted a signed contract to our office, the applicant will be provided with a taxicab drivers permit application form that must be completed and returned to the Transportation Regulation Division office. After the application form is completed and returned to our office, a background investigation is conducted. After FIVE BUSINESS DAYS, contact the Transportation Regulation Office at (214) 670-3161 to check on the status of your application for a taxi driver’s license.

Once the background has been approved a study guide for the Taxicab Driver Training Course is available for purchase at a cost of

$2.44.

After approval of the application for a taxicab driver’s license, you will be scheduled to attend the next available Taxicab Drivers Training Course. If you fail to successfully complete the class, you can be rescheduled to attend again, within the 60 days. But you may not drive a taxicab in the City of Dallas until the training course has been successfully completed and all other requirements for a license have been met. If you fail to successfully complete the training course a second time, you may not reapply for six months.

All applicants must appear in person at the Transportation Regulation Division office in order to be scheduled for the next available training class.

All applicants must attend and successfully complete a Defensive Driving Course approved by the Texas Education Agency[1] dated within the preceding 12 months. The certificate of completion of a Defensive Driving Course (original certificate) must be submitted to our office prior to the issuance of a taxicab driver’s license.

The applicant must attend and successfully complete a Defensive Driving Course approved by the Texas Education Agency and a Taxicab Drivers Training Course before a taxicab driver’s license will be issued.
