Tau Beta Sigma
Sisterhood and Spirit Committee, 2001
2001 Committee Charges:
Ø Review 2000 Committee Reports
Ø Choose the most spirited sister and chapter at convention
Ø Discuss cheers and other possible spirit related items to display at National Convention
Ø Discuss possibility of a District mascot for Tau Beta Sigma for National Convention
Dear Sisters of NCD,
I cannot tell you how happy I was to have the chance to work with such an enthusiastic group of people. In all honesty, I came into this convention a little nervous how we I was going to facilitate discussions on such a large topic as Sisterhood. But due to the communication skills and eagerness of everyone who helped on the committee, we were able to learn much about how we view Sisterhood, and what we can do to strengthen our Bonds even further.
Our first assignment was to give out the Most Spirited Sister and Most Spirited Chapter Awards. These honors will be announced at the end of this report.
Next, we had to break out the inner-cheerleaders in all of us and review some of the cheers have done in the past, as well as learn some new ones submitted by the committee.
And since you asked….we’ll demonstrate a few:

Our committee opted not to have a District mascot, in the sense of having one, specific, tangible item (such as a stuffed animal) as an item to represent our sorority. However, we do like the idea of having some sort of symbol, image, design, etc. that carries a significant meaning to the Sisters of NCD. With this, we charge next year’s Vice President of Special Projects to develop a system of advertising this thought throughout the District, and devise a system for obtaining ideas from the Sisters of NCD. These ideas shall not be limited or directed towards any specific image, and idea submissions must be accompanied with the reason WHY this symbol is representative of not only Tau Beta Sigma, but of the North Central District as well. Over the next year we hope to see this idea take shape, and we charge next year’s Sisterhood and Spirit Committee to review these contributions and plan a course of action based on the participation on the chapter level in this project.
We discussed the issue of Sisterhood between chapters, and after lots of great ideas, we decided that we should start small. At some point during this convention, we hope to have had a “mixer,” where we get up and sit next to someone we do not know. After doing this, ask them a few questions, some serious and some not so serious. For example, to break the ice you could ask the question, “If you were and article of clothing, what would you be and why?” Then, perhaps you could ask “What has been your favorite memory of TBS thus far?”
Finally, we discussed the idea of having an NCD Scrapbook that would circulate throughout the District. This would be to foster relations between chapters and to send pictures and updates to chapters before we meet each other at Blocks and Convention. Unfortunately, we did not have time to finalize all the details to see this come to a reality; however, we encourage you to try this idea with your Sister Chapters if this sounds like a fun idea for you and your own Chapters.
Okay! Now for the Awards:
This year’s Most Spirited Chapter Award goes to the Sisters of Alpha Delta.
And finally, NCD’s Most Spirited Sister Award goes to Cindy Pennock of Alpha Delta.
A huge thanks goes out to our advisors Susan and Christy, as well as everyone who sat in on the committee for their enthusiasm, spirit, and willingness to talk about the Bonds that we share as Sisters. We had much fun, and I don’t think that any other committee meeting was quite as loud as we were!
Respectfully Submitted,
