¢ Bio-Digest Toilets in Model Schools – I Phase.
§ To improve hygiene among the masses and curtail ailments caused on account of dearth of proper sanitation facilities in the State.
§ Owing to its wide adaptability, efficient functioning and environment friendly nature, the Bio Toilet is capable of alleviating the issues concerning open defecation in India.
§ Model Schools are located in Educationally Backward Blocks.
§ Creation of awareness about advantages of Bio-Digestive Toilets among boys and girls in EBBs
§ Initially the Bio-Digestive toilet be constructed in a model school as pilot and after assessing the pros and cons of the model toilet, the other toilets be constructed duly rectifying lacunas
§ 10,008 Students comprising 6505 boys and 3503 girls benefit by this intervention.
§ Programmes experimented in Model Schools can be replicated in other schools.
¢ Tamil Nadu Excels
§ Low performance of students in SSLC & HSC Board Examinations in 2014-15 identified in 5 districts Cuddalore, Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai, Vellore & Thiruvarur.
§ This is a programme to enrich and equip students in Government schools to perform better in State Board Examination.
§ Encouraging Elite students to get maximum scores.
§ Pass Percentage of the Students increased when compared to previous years.
§ Module and question papers were much useful for the students to prepare for their Public Examinations.
§ Special Coaching by Teachers resulted in improvement of the marks scored by the students.

§ In both rural and urban areas, with increasing sanitation coverage in all schools, the disposal of waste is becoming a serious problem
§ Bio- degradable and non bio-degradable waste can prove hazardous for health, if proper and complete disposal is not done
§ Serious health problems arises if thrown out in garbage dumps or in the open
§ There is, thus an imminent need to address this important sanitary waste disposal effectively especially in terms of developing cost effective and simple technology for composite waste disposal for schools
