A hearty thank you to all of the volunteers that helped during Clean Up Day and to the people that brought items that filled up the dumpsters. Without all of you, we would not have a nice clean town.

This year Jerrod will focus on the four corners of the garden then next year to fill in the remainder. Jerrod is working with a master gardener to plant drought resistant plants and flowers.

HAPPY 4TH OF

JULY

As you have probably noticed, some of our downtown buildings are receiving a facelift, thanks to the Waterville Main Street Association’s hard work. In most cases, the building owners are paying for the materials used and the WMA’s board members are doing the work. The project is being spearheaded by Kathie McMahon of Yesteryear Quilting.

Another project sponsored by the WMA is the Douglas County Barn Quilt Collection. Bainbridge Mfg. and the Town of Waterville graciously loaded Mike Davies and his crew the needed equipment to hang them. You will see this season’s quilts hanging in such places as the Nifty Theatre and Carol Cowling’s office, along with Auntie Bling’s and other locations around town, with a total of 11 completed this year. A brochure and map will be published in the near future, along with a web page for www.historicwaterville.org. Applications for next season’s collection will be available soon, and smaller 2’x2’ and 1’x1’ blocks will be available at Waterville Days. Please contact Diane Petersen @ 509.745.8226 for more information.

A group of about 30 people from the

Revitalize WA 2016 conference being held in Chelan traveled to Waterville for a walking tour of our downtown district. Dave Lundgren offered a look inside the Historic Waterville Hotel, Ed Daling gave a lively history of the downtown buildings, Keith Soderstrom graciously hosted refreshments at the Harvest House, and Jim Dixon offered a very interesting and informative tour of the Nifty Theatre.

Waterville Days, being held July 8th and 9th, is fast approaching. The PreFunc from the Wenatchee area will be performing at the 2nd Annual Waterville Stomp and Beer Garden Friday night from 7-10pm and Columbia Valley Brewery will be supplying a variety of beers on tap. A 5K fun run is being

Waterville Main street cont.:

added to Saturday’s events. Please contact Josh Barnes @ 509-860-0232 for further information. The Waterville Days committee is looking for volunteers for Saturday, July 9th. If you would enjoy helping, please contact Lisa Davies @ 360-391-2232.

Come one, come all! The WMA General Partnership meetings are held on the 4th Monday of each month at Town Hall from 5-6pm. Whether you are a member or not, please feel free to drop in to learn more about the Main Street Association and their vision for our community.

Now is a very good opportunity to spend some time enjoying the beauty of our local parks. The trees are leafing out, flowers are in bloom, and the lawns are lush and green.
Improvements are happening in Pioneer Park. Jerrod Biggar, Park Superintendent, is working with a master gardener to replant the sunken garden. Residents are hoping to bring back the past beauty of the garden. Renovation will take place in segments until the project is complete. Many of the large trees have been recently pruned and look very healthy. Additionally, there are quite a few new metal picnic tables in the Park. Dale Loebsack has been appointed as a Tree Board member. The Tree Board still has one position open. Interested parties should inquire at Town Hall or call 745-8871 for more information. Nominations for Yard of the Month are always welcome. The nomination forms and container are in Town Hall.

Spring is in the air; trees are blossoming, and flowers are blooming. Please help your Tree Board members by nominating your neighbor's or your own yard for Yard of the Month. Nomination forms and entry box are available at Town Hall. Nominations will continue through September.

Congratulations to Cory Milbrandt for being named May’s Yard of the Month!!!!!

TIPS FOR A MOSQUITO FREE SUMMER

During mosquito season there are things you can do at home to stop them.

1.  Change water in birdbaths twice a week.

2.  Repair leaky faucets and sprinklers.

3.  Empty water from flower pot dishes.

4.  Clean leaf clogged gutters.

5.  Keep water fresh and drain standing water from around stock troughs.

6.  Recycle old bottles, buckets, & cans.

7.  Clean garden ponds and stock them with fish.

8.  Get rid of used tires properly.

Mosquitoes need water to breed and grow. It doesn’t take much water and it doesn’t take much time. So, almost anything around your home that can hold water for a week or more can produce these pests. Get rid of places where water collects and mosquitoes won’t have a chance.

For more information, go to the Department of Health website at www.doh.wa.gov.
