TAG Young Professionals Presents Triathlete Scott Rigsby
Rigsby to share his story of overcoming the odds and ‘Doing the Unthinkable’
ATLANTA (February 20, 2012) –TAG Young Professionals, asociety of the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG),is hosting triathlete and motivational speaker, Scott Rigsby, at a special society event on March 14 starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Georgia Tech Research Institute Auditorium. Rigsby will share his inspirational talk about ‘Doing the Unthinkable.’
Scott Rigsby is used to overcoming major obstacles. At age 18, he was thrown from a truck and dragged over 380 feet under a three-ton trailer. After losing his right leg, Rigsby endured over 26 surgeries in 10 years before finally deciding to “free” himself from being a professional patient and remove his left leg. Rigsby spent years fighting his personal demons before making the commitment that if God opened a door for him, he would go through it.
On October 13, 2007, after enduring the elements for 16 hours and 43 minutes, NBC Sports featured Scott Rigsby as he became the first double amputee in the world to finish an Ironman distance triathlon with prosthetics at the 140.6-mile Ford Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Scott was awarded Competitor Magazine’s 2007 Physically Challenged Athlete of the Year and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons 2007 Patient of Courage.
“The worlds of athletics and business share some undeniable parallels, particularly when it comes to the stress of competition. This evening with Scott should encourage us all to strive for success—even when the odds might not seem to be in our favor,” stated Adam Fisher, chair of the Young Professionals society.
“TAG is always looking for new ways to educate and inspire our members,” said Tino Mantella, president and CEO of TAG. “Inspiration comes in all forms and, in this case, we hope the story of a triathlete succeeding against the odds will motivate the tech community to think beyond what seems impossible to develop the innovations of our future.”
Tickets are $20 for TAG members and students and $40 for non-members. Registration cost includes a copy of Scott Rigsby’s book, “UnThinkable”. For more information or to register for the event, visit:
