Table S3. Results of the cluster analyses based on phenotypic characters for Silene latifolia and Hadena bicruris. For each species, represented are the numbers of individuals within each population that were assigned to either of two clusters. For (a) Silene latifolia (SL) the cluster performed for sexes pooled together was based on three traits (petal length, corolla tube length and width) and revealed sexual dimorphism, so the analyses were repeated for separated sexes. For females the analyses revealed the existence of two clusters when it was done based only on corolla tube length, and for males based on the same three traits as for sexes pooled together. For (b) Hadena bicruris (HB) the analysis based on wing area, proboscis length and thorax width revealed two clusters, but both males and females seemed to have the same probability of belonging to one clusters or another (see main text), so we only performed the analysis for sexes pooled together.
