Text: Brief Calculus and Its Applications by Goldstein, Lay and Schneider, 11th edition.

Technical support: Graphing calculators will not be allowed on quizzes or tests.

You will need a calculator that does exponentials and logarithms.

Supplies: All quizzes and tests must be done in pencil.

Grades - Your grades will be based on quizzes and tests as explained below and on the reverse.

Attendance - Regular attendance is crucial for success. I will take attendance every day. Unless previous arrangements are made, you are expected to arrive on time and stay for the whole class. You will be allowed 5 unexcused absences. More than 5 unexcused absences will result in an automatic F for the course. Note that sleeping or otherwise not paying attention will cost you an unexcused absence. Make sure you save a couple of "freebies" for the stressful, end-of-semester busyness.

An excused absence will result from a verifiable illness (you or your immediate family), family emergency (verifiable by the dean of your college), class or sports team sponsored trip (verifiable by the coach or professor in charge), or a required court appearance (verifiable by an officer of the court.) Regular, non-emergency, dental and doctor check-ups should be scheduled at a time when you are not in class.

Daily Homework- Daily homework will be assigned, but not graded.

Quizzes - Quizzes will contain problems similar to homework and examples. You will have a quiz on most Tuesdays that covers the work done from the previous Thursday and Friday. Similarly, there will be a quiz on most Fridays that covers the work done on Monday and Tuesday of that week. Four (4) quizzes will be dropped to account for absences. There will be no make-up quizzes for any reason.

Tests - Tests are in class, closed books and notes. Specific content will be announced before each test.

There will be no make-up tests given without an excused absence. Except for emergencies, you must contact me on the day of the test to schedule a make-up.

The common final exam has not been set by the registrar yet. It is usually from 7 - 9 p.m. on either Tuesday or Wednesday of finals’ week.

It is department policy that no student shall pass the course without taking the final exam.

It is university policy that the department chair (Brink 300) must approve all conflicts.

Conflict requests must be made ASAP.

The complete policy on final exams can be found at http://www.uidaho.edu/newton.

Grades will be computed using whichever method results in the highest grade.

(I will do this. You don't have to do anything except get a good score on the final exam ☺)
