Measures of Central tendency .Arithmetic mean, Median,Mode and other partition values: Quartiles,Deciles and Percentiles with graphic representation.

Unit –II10 marks

Measures of Dispersion: Range,Q.D,M.D. and Standard deviation. Moments. Skewness & Kurtosis and their measures including those based on quartiles and moments.

Unit –III10 marks

Biivariate data: Scatter diagram. Product moment Correlation coefficient and its properties, Coefficient of rank correlation.

Unit –IV10 marks

Principle of least squares.Concept of regression, Fitting of l regression lines, regression coefficients and their properties

Unit –I16 marks

Definition of probability{Classical & axiomatic approach}. Properties of probability based on axiomatic approach. Laws of addition & Multiplication of probability. Conditional probability. Independence of events. Baye’s theorem.

Unit –II16 marks

Random Variables. Idea of probability mass function & probability density function. Expectation of a random variable & its properties. Addition theorem & Multiplication theorem of Expectation. Variance and Co-variance. Properties of Normal distribution (without derivation).

Unit –III16 marks

Univariate data: Measures of Central tendency. Measures of dispersion and relative dispersion. Moments. Skewness & Kurtosis and their measures including those based on quartiles and moments.

Unit –IV16 marks

Biivariate data: Scatter diagram. Product moment Correlation coefficient and its properties. Principle of least squares. Fitting of linear regression, regression coefficients and their properties. Rank correlation.

Unit –V16 marks

Test of Significance: Null &Alternative hypotheses. Type-I & Type-II errors. Tests of significance based on Normal,and chi-square statistics.

Analysis of variance for One-way classification & Two-way classification (one observation per cell for fixed effect model.). Fundamental principles of Design of Experiment.

Unit –II16 marks

Basic Designs: Completely Randomized Design, Randomized Block Design (Mathematical model, Null hypotheses, Statistical analysis with ANOVA table, Merits and Limitations).

Unit –III16 marks

Concepts of Population and Sample, Need for sampling. Census and Sample survey. Sampling & Non-sampling errors. Steps in large scale sample survey. Methods of drawing random samples (use of Random Number Tables).

Unit –IV16 marks

Basic Sampling Methods: Simple random sampling with replacement and without replacement. Stratified random sampling with allocation of sample sizes (Estimation of mean, total & standard error of estimate).

Unit –V16 marks

Vital Statistics: Definition, methods of obtaining vital statistics and uses. Rates and Ratios of vital events, Measurement of mortality (CDR, SDR, STDR.). Life table. Measurement of fertility: (CBR, Age SFR, GFR, TFR). Measurement of population growth: G.R.R., N.R.R.
