Extra credit work: At the end of each chapter, there are Financial Planning Activities, Financial Planning Cases and Continuing Cases. These are NOT assigned homework. However, if students complete any of these Financial Planning Activities, Financial Planning Cases and Continuing Cases, they will be treated as extra credit work carrying a maximum of 25 points, which can potentially improve your grade up by one level.

For extra credit work, you don’t have to complete every single chapter; however, you should do most of the chapters. In general, if you complete 4-5 of the above from most of the chapters, you will get full 25 extra credit points.

Extra credit work must be typedin MICROSOFT WORD and submitted ON OR BEFORE the day of EXAM 5, which is the last exam for the course.

Extra credit work MUST BE SUBMITTED IN THE “DROP BOX” in D2L.All extra credit work WILL be tested for PLAGIARISM using a software program in D2L, and copying of any sort will be dealt with very seriously according to university policy.

GRADING POLICY: There will be FIVE examinations as follows:

Exam 1: : Chapters 1 – 4 (80 questions)

Exam 2:: Chapters 1 – 4 (16 questions),

Chapters 5 – 8 (64 questions)

Exam 3: : Chapters 5 – 8 (16 questions)

Chapters 9 – 12 (64 questions)

Exam 4: : Chapters 9 – 12 (16 questions)

Chapters 13 – 16 (64 questions)

Exam 5:: Chapters 13– 16 (16 questions)

Chapters 17 – 19 (64 questions)

The exams are open to you the entire day (1 a.m. early morning– 11.59 p.m.) as given above. Once you start the exam, you must complete it within 100 minutes.

Please note that the online exams will show only ONE question at a time. You must answer it, save it and then move on to the next question. Once you move to the next question, YOU CANNOT MOVE BACK to earlier questions and change your answers. Also, at the end of your exam, you can only see YOUR TOTAL SCORE for that exam. However, two days after the exam you CAN SEE FULL DETAILS ABOUT WHICH QUESTIONS YOU WENT WRONG, AND THE CORRECT RESPONSE.

Personal Finance is all about knowing various options and important details. As such, you MUST thoroughly read the entire chapter, and take careful notes. The exams will test your understanding of your textbook material. The PowerPoint files are given ONLY as a summary of chapter material and NOT as a substitute for textbook.

Examinations carry 80 points each. Mark the exam dates carefully in your calendar or other electronic devices.

If you miss an exam, you get ZERO (and not a make-up!!!). Please don’t waste the instructor’s time asking for make-ups.

Homework submitted online through CONNECT HOMEWORK MANAGER carries100 points. (as long as you do at least 100 of the 109 assigned homework problems correct, you will get full 100 points)

Examinations consist of Multiple-Choice or True-False questions. Sample exams are kept on the D2L for your reference.

Grades will be allotted as per the following scale:

450 - 500 = A

425 – 449 = A-

400 – 424 = B+

375 – 399 = B

350 - 374 = B-

325 – 349 = C+

300 - 324 = C

275 – 299 = C-

250 - 274= D

less than 250 = E

No Incompletes are given. Grades are based on performance only, and not based on student needs.
