Mrs. Farah A. Bazzi - Room A129 - (313) 827 1400 –

Course Description: Biology is a course designed to develop an understanding of living things. Our class will have multiple lab activities and explorations using research based inquiry skills, group activities, scaffolding, field trips, and guests from the Biology field. The course will also start integrating the Next Generation Science Standards; adopted in Nov of 2015 by the state of Michigan. The Biology standards provide students with a basic knowledge of living organisms and the interaction of these organisms with the natural world. The standards establish the Science and Engineering Performance Expectations for all Biology students in Michigan. Biology courses should serve as the foundation for higher-level Science courses and should give students the Science skills necessary for life science–related technical careers.

Unit / Chapter(s) / Days of Instruction
Inquiry / Ch. 1 / Throughout the year
Cell Division / Ch. 8 / 18 days
DNA Replication and Protein Synthesis / Ch. 10 / 22 days
Mendelian and Molecular Genetics / Ch. 9, 12 / 22 days
Evolution and Biodiversity / Ch. 15 / 16 days

PHONE RULE:

Although technology will be a key component in our learning process, I strongly believe that phones constitute a big distraction if it is not used for educational reasons. As such,ALLstudents areREQUIREDto turn in their cell phones in the calculator pockets provided according to their seat number while I'm taking attendance. Phones will remain visible to you the whole hour and no one will be allowed to leave the class until everyone's cell phone has been returned which will eliminate any losses.

OIf your cell phone is not in the pocket, a phone call will be made on the spot and a meeting will be scheduled with your parents/guardians. Also, you will lose your daily participation points and will receive an infraction.

oBy signing the syllabus agreement form, both you and your parents/guardians agree with the cell phone rule and the rest of the syllabus elements.
