First I would like to welcome everyone back. I hope you had a wonderful summer. This year I have some very exciting and thought-provoking things planned for the students.

Standards Overview:

Reading Literature

Reading Informational Text

Speaking and Listening

Writing

Language

We will be completing all of these standards throughout the school year using a variety of methods. We will be reading novels, fiction and non-fiction, short stories, and poems, as well as informational text throughout the year. The students will be keeping Writing Practice Notebooks tokeep track of how their writing has progressed throughout the year.

I require that students’ writing and all class/homework assignments be written in cursive. If turned in and not written in cursive, points will be taken off the final grade.AR will still be a very intricate part of our classroom. Students are expected to read novels (assigned and leisure) take the AR tests for those novels and pass with 80% or higher in order to receive credit for the book. AR tests maybe included in your grades during the 9 wks. ALL AR tests will be taken in my classroom. Students are not allowed to take an AR test at home or in another teacher’s classroom unless given permission to do so by me.I am also requiring that students read at least four novels on their reading level each nine weeks.

Students will have several independent as well as group projects they will have to complete throughout the school year. Some media projects will be given such as power points and digital storyboards.

Grading Criteria:

  • 30% Final Assessments(Projects)
  • 30% Class Work/Participation
  • 10% Quizzes/Homework
  • 30% Writing Notebooks

Percentage grades will be given and assignments will be given and checked almost daily. Writing notebooks will be graded every nine weeks and periodically checked. Independent novel studies and/or independent reading projects will be due every nine weeks and periodically checked.

Absences: YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR MISSING WORK!!! Any notes missed or the homework assignments can be found on the teacher website or from a classmate.Students will have up to 2 days to complete missing work, until that assignment is turned in, the grade will be an INC (incomplete) after the 2 day grace period, those assignments will not be accepted and the INC will become a zero.
