Required Personal Protective Equipment: CSA approved safety glasses/goggles or face shield, CSA approved steel-toed footwear, 100 % cotton coveralls preferred,gloves and hearing protection when required per RETSD policy.

GENERAL NOTES: No lighters, matches or cell phones are allowed in the shop area. Long necklaces, bracelets and rings should be removed. Long hair should be tied back. Strings and hoods hanging from pullovers/sweaters should be removed or tucked inside of coveralls.

Job Safety Analysis:

Step / Description / Hazard / Controls
1 / Ensure engine is cold; remove cap from radiator overflow container. / If engine is hot the coolant will explode out of the overflow container. / Always ensure engine is cold if you remove the cap from the radiator overflow container.
2 / Screw on the cap from the pressurized cooling system tester and tighten the pressure screw.
3 / Pump the handle of the pressurized cooling system tester until the pressure reaches 20 pounds per square inch.Carefully watch the gauge and ensure that the pressure is kept at 20 psi. - (If you cannot attain pressure then the gauge cap is not properly fitted to the overflow container). Unscrew the gauge cap and try again. Watch for leaks.
4 / To remove the pressurized cooling system tester from the overflow container by; releasing the pressure screw (wing nut) completely and then slowly unscrewing the cap from the radiator overflow container. / If pressure release screw is not release first the coolant will erupt out of the overflow container. Coolant will spray everywhere; face, eyes, etc. / Remember to release the pressure release screw first.
