Required Personal Protective Equipment: CSA approved chemical goggles/glasses, or face-shield as well as CSA approved safety glasses, chemical gloves, 100% cotton coveralls, CSA approved steel-toed boots/shoes, leather apron, and respirator as needed per Material Safety Data Sheet

GENERAL NOTES: Read your Material Safety Data Sheets - know the risk Work in a well-ventilated area.

No matches, lighters or cell phones allowed in the shop area. Long hair should be tied back; strings and hoods from pullovers/sweaters should be removed or tucked inside of coveralls. Long necklaces and or bracelets should be removed.

Job Safety Analysis:

1 / Read and understand Material Safety Data Sheet on chemical/s being handled. / Not knowing could be life threatening / Read and understand Material Safety Data Sheet on chemical/s being used, handled.
2 / Know where the nearest emergency eye wash and shower are located and that the path is clear / Burns to the eye/s, skin--Trip, fall, injury to self, others / Know where the nearest emergency eyes wash and shower is located. --Keep path to these 2 locations clean and clear.
3 / Check the Material Safety Data Sheet for the appropriate respirator and filter for chemical/s being handled/poured. / Ingestion - breathing fumes / Carefully examine respirator and filter and confirm that they are working before you begin.
4 / Gather chemical goggles, face shield and any other personal protective equipment prior to handling/pouring chemicals. / Eye injury - splash, fumes--Contact irritation burn or absorption - Splash, skin contact--Face burn, irritation - Splash / Chemical goggles--Gloves appropriate type for chemicals - long sleeve coveralls, apron if necessary--Wear face shield--
5 / For caustics/acids/reactive chemicals, use face shield in addition to goggles / Face burn, irritation - splash / Wear chemical safety glasses/goggles--Wear face shield
6 / Do not mix incompatible chemicals as injury, illness or death may result. / Chemical-Reactive--Chemical-Toxic / Always read Material Safety Data Sheets--Always read container of chemical/s - should advise if reactive and with what.

9 / Use a clean funnel for pouring into a vessel with a small diameter opening to prevent spill/splash. / Chemical - Burn--Chemical-Irritant--Chemical-Corrosive--Ingestion - breathing fumes / Chemical goggles - wear face shield, gloves appropriate type for chemicals, long sleeve coveralls, apron if necessary and respirator if required per MSDS.
10 / Do not allow chemicals to enter a drain, or the environment (ground, watershed, etc.) / Hazardous Waste / Dispose of the chemicals appropriately - chemicals and chemical containers cannot be placed in the garbage, they must be taken to an appropriate site/storage area.
